Zombie!

Since the season of Halloween revolves around the souls of the dead returning to earth to haunt the living, what better “poster child” to have for Halloween night than the Zombie!

The dictionary describes a Zombie as,  “the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose”.   I have never been to a haunted house where there weren’t several Zombie’s scaring people to death! 

For me the word Zombie only means one thing – “Night of the Living Dead”.  Night of the Living Dead was a black and white Independent horror film from back in 1968 and directed by George A. Romero.  The film cost $114,000 to make and to date has grossed an estimated $30 million Internationally.  By those figures, I’m not the only one who thinks of Night of the Living Dead when they hear the word Zombie! 

Today, there are five films in the “Dead” series.  Although they’re not considered sequels, they all have one thing in common…..Zombie’s!

  1. Night of the Living Dead – 1968
  2. Dawn of the Dead – 1978
  3. Day of the Dead – 1985
  4. Land of the Dead – 2005
  5. Diary of the Dead – 2007

 

Did you know that they even have Zombie Walks?  The world’s largest zombie walk was held on October 29, 2006 in Monroeville Mall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the setting of Romero’s original Dawn of the Dead film. The walk consisted of 894 attendees who all were instructed to bring canned food for a local food drive. The walk was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest zombie walk ever held.

Sexy Halloween Costumes

I was reading an article in the paper today about the huge increase in popularity with women, 20 to 40 years old buying sexy costumes.  According to the article, the “S” word for Halloween isn’t “scary” anymore – it’s “sexy”!  I think this is wonderful.  It just goes to show you that you’re never too old to play dress up.  Halloween is the one night of the year when many women can step out of their comfort zone and not be alone in doing so.  There will be so many women dressed in sexy costumes this year going to costume parties or even for a night of “clubbing” with your friends.

Santa Claus at Halloween?

The costumes at Halloween Express are not just for trick-or-treating or costume parties during the Halloween season.  People need costumes for different reasons all year long, especially with all the other holidays we have throughout the year.  Whether it’s Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Mardi Gras or any other holiday, we have the costumes you need.  And not just holidays, you might need a costume for a dance class, drama school, a theater performance or a theme party – whatever it is, Halloween Express is the place to go all year long.

The reason I’m mentioning all this is because I love to see other “holiday” characters at Halloween.  I think it’s great!  When my nephew, Mark was in the 3rd grade his school was having a big costume party with prizes for the top costumes.  He went as a full-blown white beard wearing mini Santa Claus and won 1st place.  All his buddies thought it was so cool and his teacher loved it.  That year on Halloween night it was a record low temperature and it started to snow flurry while the kids were out trick-or-treating.  Mark’s costume was perfect for the weather and he was warm as can be all bundled up in his red suit, white gloves and black boots.  Every door he knocked on the person who answered would yell into the house for everyone to come to the door to see Mark dressed as Santa.  Boy, did he think he was cool.  That was nine years ago, and it never fails that every Halloween someone in the family brings up the time when Mark was Santa for Halloween.

So this year, go to your Halloween costume party as Santa or Mrs. Claus or even the Easter Bunny!  Believe me people will love it and you’ll be the hit of the party.  Check out all our Holiday costumes at Holiday Halloween Costumes.

Cowboys and Indians

Growing up I remember my brother’s running around the backyard playing cowboy and Indians.  They would chase each other for hours with my older brother Brian playing the gun slinging cowboy and my younger brother Kyle chasing right behind him wearing his Indian war bonnet and waving around his precious tomahawk (talk about an accident waiting to happen).  Of course I always wanted to play the little Indian girl but there was no way they were going to let a girl play in their “manly” war game, especially their sister!

Today, children still play cowboy and Indians, and I believe our children’s children will play cowboy and Indians – it’s a rich part of our past heritage.  I just love to watch the old Western’s on television with the rugged cowboys in their leather duster and chaps.  The good guys always won! 

The blockbuster movie 3:10 to Yuma was just released in September to rave reviews.  It’s about a small-time rancher that agrees to hold a captured outlaw who’s awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma.  It’s bringing the modern day cowboy back to the forefront just in time for Halloween season.  I think you’re going to be seeing a lot of cowboys (adults and children) at costume parties and out trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Then you had academy award winning movies like “The Last of the Mohicans” and “Dances With Wolves” in the early 90’s that had every child wanting to be an American Indian.  These were definitely two of my all time favorite movies ever!

Have you seen our new line of Everlast costumes?  They’re the satin boxing shorts, robes and gloves with Everlast printed on them.  Today, with as big as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is, this costume is sure to be a huge hit.  The great thing about this costume is that it comes in boys/mens sizes toddler, child and adult and girls/womens sizes child and adult.  There is even an Everlast costume for women as the Ring Card Girl.  Check out all our Everlast costumes at Everlast Halloween Costumes.

There were some great cartoons on Saturday mornings when I was growing up.  Two of my favorites were the Flintstones and the Jetsons.  They were on complete opposite sides of the spectrum where the Flinstones was a great cartoon about two friends and their families from the past where as the Jetsons was a really cool cartoon about a family that lives in the future.  Both were great shows!  Who can forget Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble or George and Jane Jetson.   If you had two couples and needed a costume idea for a group, what about Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty?  Or if you’re going as a couple you could always go as Pebbles and Bam Bam.  Make sure you check out our whole line of The Flinstones and The Jetsons costumes at  The Flinstones and Jetsons Halloween Costumes.

Tim Burton is a film director known mostly for the quirky and gothic atmosphere of his films.  Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are just a few of the movies he has directed.  All of these movies have excellent characters to base a Halloween Costume on – Edward has hands made of scissors, Jack Skellington, and Willy Wonka are all fun characters to play.  You can see these and much more at  Tim Burton Movie Halloween Costumes.
