Freddy’s Back!

Freddy Krueger Deluxe Costume

The latest Freddy Krueger “Nightmare On Elm Street” sequel was released in movie theaters April 30th.  Over the weekend it won first place at the box office bringing in $32.2 million!  Not bad since Freddy has been on a 7 year hiatus from the big screen.

Once again the movie takes place on Elm Street and the teens that live there are having really bad dreams!  I’m pretty sure it’s considered a bad dream where a serial killer sporting a melted face and a glove with four long blades embedded in the fingers shows up to kill you!

Since the original movie 7 years ago teens have been portraying good old Freddy for Halloween every year since.  This year will definitely be the year for Freddy Krueger costumes and accessories!

If you like the “old school” classic horror flicks, go see Nightmare On Elm Street…just don’t fall asleep while you’re there!!

Heroes Aren’t Born, They’re Built – Iron Man Is Back!

Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2

The original movie Iron Man was released on May 2, 2008 and quickly became a huge success.  For children and adults that love their superheroes, Iron Man became a household name.  There were a lot of “little” Iron Man’s trick-or-treating and a lot of “big” Iron Man’s at costume parties around the country that year for Halloween.

Well, the much anticipated sequel, Iron Man 2 has finally arrived and will be released on the big screen next Friday May 7th.  The billionaire genius, Tony Stark is back and wittier than ever!  If you saw the first one you know that they couldn’t have picked a better actor to play the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man than Robert Downey Jr.  He was excellent!  He’s accompanied by some other big name actors such as; Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle and Scartlett Johansson.   Of course leave it to Mickey Rourke’s acting skills to make the evil bad guy, Whiplash into a great character.

Iron Man costumes are going to be flying off the shelves again this year, so don’t wait to order yours.  I know my son can’t wait for May 7th so he and his friends can go see the movie.  He’s already told me he wants to be Iron Man and his best friend is going as the enemy, Whiplash for Halloween this year.

This is definitely going to be one blockbuster sequel you’re not going to want to miss!

Some Bunny Loves You!

Deluxe Bunny Adult Costume

This weekend will be filled with family get togethers, Easter Egg Hunts and honey baked hams.  The weather man says that Easter Sunday will be in the 70′s with plenty of sunshine and blue skies.  We couldn’t ask for a better Easter weekend!  Every year it’s up to me to plan our family’s annual Easter party.  I love doing it because we have a huge backyard giving us plenty of great hiding places for all those plastic Easter eggs the kids love to find.  The party is always on the Saturday before Easter.

The best way to be organized when planning your Easter party is to have a checklist of everything you need.

  • food
  • decorations
  • colored eggs
  • Easter egg hunt
  • games
  • prizes
  • bunny suit

Now this last item on my list is by far one of the most important.  Even though all the children know that the real Easter Bunny doesn’t come until they are nice and tucked into their beds Saturday night, they love when my husband puts on his Easter Bunny Costume and hands out candy.  The younger ones get so excited when the “Easter Bunny” walks around the backyard with them to help them find their hidden Easter eggs.

Easter is right up there with Christmas as far as children are concerned.  Every kid loves the Easter Bunny and the candy that he brings!

Here’s wishing you and your family a very Happy Easter!!

“I’m The Cat In The Hat, There’s No Doubt About That!”

The Cat In The Hat

Read Across America (and Dr. Seuss’ birthday) is coming up on March 2, so I thought it would be a good time to learn a little about the infamous book, “The Cat In The Hat!”  Dr. Seuss’ beginner books were always a favorite of mine growing up and I passed my love of them onto my children.  His books are fun to read and kids of all ages love to read them!

This year for Read Across America, go all out to show your support of how important reading is for our children, by putting on a Dr. Seuss costume and reading The Cat In The Hat at your child’s school, library or even a neighborhood reading group.  Don your big red and white striped hat and show the kids how much fun it is to read Dr. Seuss books!

Here’s a little insight into how the book, “The Cat In The Hat” got it’s start:

In 1957 the country’s concern for children’s literacy prompted Theodore Seuss Geisel to write the first of his “Beginner Books”, The Cat In The Hat.  He answered the question of “why children can’t read” by creating fun and entertaining books that children wanted to read.

The challenge was in writing the book for Seuss.  His publisher supplied him with a list of 400 words that the children were learning in school.  He then told him to cut the list in half and to try and write an interesting enough book for children.  Nine months later Dr. Seuss finished The Cat In The Hat, which used 223 words that were on the list plus 13 words that weren’t.  The story is 1626 words in length and uses a vocabulary of only 236 distinct words, of which 54 occur once and 33 twice.  Only a single word – another – has three syllables, while 14 have two and the remaining 221 are monosyllabic.  The longest words are something and playthings.  Dr. Seuss claimed that the title for the book came from his desire to have the title rhyme and the first two suitable rhyming words that he could find from the list were “cat” and “hat”.

The story is about a mischievous giant, talking Cat that transforms a dull, rainy afternoon into a magical and just messy enough adventure for two children.  Bringing with him two creatures named Thing One and Thing Two, the Cat performs all sorts of wacky tricks to amuse the children and turns their home into a chaotic playground.

Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat also became a movie in 2003 produced by Universal Studios, DreamWorks Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.  Mike Myers starred in the title role of the Cat In The Hat.

And now you know the story behind the story.

Celebrate In Mardi Gras Style!

Mardi Gras Costumes

Wow there is so much going on in the month of February; Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, President’s Day and the one we just missed – Groundhog’s Day (although that would be a hard one as far as costumes are concerned).

However we all know that the biggest party holiday of the month is definitely Mardi Gras!  There are celebrations, parades, costumes, decorations and parties, parties and more parties all over the country, but none bigger then in New Orleans.  How cool would it be to hang out at the French Quarter and Bourbon Street during some of the crazy festivities.  The Mardi Gras Carnival season actually started back on January 6th, but the grand finale is Mardi Gras Day (also known as Fat Tuesday) on February 16th.

If you can’t make it to New Orleans this year then bring Bourbon Street to you!  HalloweenExpress.com has everything you’ll need  from wonderful Mardi Gras costumes and elegant sequin masks to those infamous Mardi Gras beads and boas to make your party one for the record books!

Don’t let this February 16th pass you by without throwing your own Fat Tuesday party!
