This always happens to me, and maybe it happens to you, too. During this crazy-busy time of the year, I just tend to get so wrapped up in life and all that’s going on with the end of the school year events, graduations, etc. that I completely lose track of time. Then suddenly, all at once, it’s like, BAM-this really great holiday is suddenly looming right in front of me, and here I am once again sadly, with zero plans on how to spend it. Hey, it’s still not too late to make your extra day off fun, special as well as meaningful and so I’ve come up with a list of last minute ideas that don’t require a lot of forethought but will still show you a good time.
Movies: It’s no accident that the summer blockbuster movie season has already begun with many heavy-hitter films now lighting up the box office and even more are set to make their grand entrance conveniently this weekend! Have you seen Iron Man 3, The Great Gatsby, Star Trek Into The Darkness, Fast and Furious 6, The Hangover Part III, or Epic? Um…choosing which movie (or movies) to see might truly be the hardest part of your weekend!
Great Movies…At Home: Maybe you just don’t want to deal with the crowds at your local cinema and would rather stay at home and watch a great flick from the comfort of your own couch. For Memorial Day, I like the idea of watching some classic war-themed movie favorites to really get into the vibe of what Memorial Day is all about. My movie picks for your Memorial Day viewing pleasure? How about Platoon, Saving Private Ryan or Born on The Fourth of July?
Barbecue or Picnic: Hey, a cookout is a Memorial Day weekend tradition isn’t it? It’s time to bust out the traditional barbecue fare (hot dogs, hamburgers, etc.) and fire up that grill for some good ol’ All-American eating! Now, we’re talking!
Get Outside: The weather is finally warming up and if you are like me, you spend far too much time inside, anyway! Do something outdoors, whether it be hiking, a day at the beach or even grabbing a line and a pole and headin’ down to your local fishing hole. A day spent outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine will really “feel” like a day off just by virtue of the fact that it’s spent outside–which is sort of the point, folks.
My friends, may all your Memorial Day adventures be good ones. Please take a moment on this special day to remember those brave men and women who gave their lives so that you could be doing what you should be today and that is enjoying your life, liberty and pursuit of happiness!
Happy Memorial Day!
