Thanksgiving Costumes For Your Little Ones!

Indian Girl Child Costume

I hope everyone had a wonderful and happy Halloween this year! As usual, time flies and we’re already heading into the Thanksgiving holiday – only a few weeks away.

The good thing about costumes, especially with children, is that it’s something they will get much use of even after Halloween has come and gone. My kids always play dress-up with their costumes for months after Halloween. A costume is a great investment in keeping kids occupied and having fun!

Indian Girl Child CostumeNow that Halloween is over it’s time to check out some of the Thanksgiving Holiday Costumes. They are simply adorable!  HalloweenExpress.com has outdone themselves this year with costumes for everyone in your family from the youngest pilgrim to the oldest Indian!

All across the country Thanksgiving traditions will be in full swing with parades, football on the big screen and lots of turkey and pumpkin pie. Some families even celebrate Thanksgiving by putting up their Christmas lights!  A tradition we started in my family a few years ago, was to have the children dress up in Indian and Pilgrim Costumes.  They love it and it gives all the children that sit at the “kid’s table” a chance to really be part of the celebration.  However, we do have a few adults in the family that sit at the “adult table” that also love getting in on the fun and wearing a costume.  I say the more the merrier!

This year start a new tradition with your family by letting your children dress-up on Thanksgiving.  Once in costume they become an active participant in the holiday by wanting to help in any way they can.  This comes in handy when it’s time to clean up!

Yabba Dabba Doo…

The Flintstones

The Flintstones

Flintstones, meet the Flintstones, They’re a modern stoneage family.
From the, town of Bedrock, They’re a page right out of history.
Let’s ride, with the family down the street, Through the courtesy of Fred’s two feet.
When you’re, with the Flintstones, Have a yabba dabba doo time, A dabba doo time,
You’ll have a gay old time!

Wow, how many times have you heard that theme song and sung along with it?  I grew up watching The Flintstones and loved it!  It was so much fun to see Fred and Barney unknowingly get themselves in over their head in almost every episode only to have Wilma and Betty lovingly get them out of it.  Who could forget Pebbles and Bam-Bam and of course their adorable pet dinosaur Dino!

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary for everyone’s favorite modern stone-age family from the town of Bedrock, The Flintstones!  Even Google acknowledged this special occasion by creating a Flintstone “doodle” on their homepage.  The classic cartoon premiered on ABC on September 30, 1960.

Pebbles CostumeGreat family cartoons such as The Flintstones and The Jetsons have always inspired people to dress up as their characters for Halloween.  It’s not unheard of to see Fred and Wilma, Barney and Betty or even Pebbles and Bam-Bam trick-or-treating on Halloween night or winning first prize at costume parties!  Famous cartoon characters that make up television and movie costumes are always popular with both children and adults alike!

Medieval Festival of Fun!

Renaissance Festival

Let us go back to a time of dueling swordsmen, rowdy pirates and jousting knights; where one can dine with royalty or dance with the peasants.

Renaissance Festival

Medieval and Renaissance Festival’s are fun for the entire family and what better place to show off that Renaissance costume you’ve been dying to wear!  Visiting a Renaissance Faire let’s you step back in time and makes you feel as if you’re actually living in the 16th century and a part of history.

There’s so much to see and do at a Renaissance festival!  Go for a weekend because you’ll need more than one day to dance with the gypsies, juggle with the jesters or parlay with the pirates.  Where else can you see valiant Medieval knights charge into battle fighting for the Queen’s honor.

Renaissance Faire

If you get a chance, go to a Renaissance festival.  We took our children last weekend and it was so much fun!  The performers and costumes were so beautiful.  We’re definitely going back!

Come all ye knights and damsels, and click here to see if there’s a Renaissance Faire in your neck of the woods!

That’s The Way We Became The Brady Bunch!

The Brady Bunch

The Brady Bunch

Halloween is a holiday best celebrated with lots of family and friends; the more the merrier!  That’s why group costumes are so popular.  Nobody wants to trick-or-treat alone!

There are so many great themes to pick from when choosing group costumes.  My favorite by far is “The Brady Bunch”.  I grew up watching the show and can still remember many of the episodes – who doesn’t!  The Brady Bunch taught us many important life lessons – such as donning a huge Afro wig will make one more popular, how to sport a groovy man perm, taking an ancient tiki from Hawaii is a sure way to get you cursed and exaggerating to your friends will get Davy Jones to sing at your prom.

Besides all that, the Brady Bunch gave us a sense of style!  There wasn’t a family out there that could put together outrageous vintage outfits quite like Mike, Carol, Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy!

This Halloween I’m definitely getting my husband to dress as Mike and I’m donning the Carol Brady costume!  Florence Henderson (who played Carol all those years) is putting on her dancing shoes to complete in “Dancing With The Stars” which airs on ABC in a couple weeks and I know Carol Brady is going to be one hot dance momma!

I’m sad that my children are too young to appreciate the phenomenon known as The Brady Bunch, but I’m sure my brothers and sisters will be more than happy to portray one of the Brady’s in a Brady Bunch costume

Without a doubt we’ll win first place in any costume contest this Halloween!

Ahoy Matey! International “Talk Like A Pirate Day” is September 19th!

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Ok, how many of you honestly knew about this so-called pirate holiday?  I admit, I’d never heard about it until one of my friends brought it to my attention.  She has young children and admitted to playing up to the holiday as a great way to spend some quality time with her kids.  Well, it worked and over the years it’s spread throughout their neighborhood to where every September 19th, you feel as though you’ve just walked on to the set of Pirates of the Caribbean!

If this sounds like fun to you, check out how the original buccaneers behind “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” John Baur and Mark Summers came up with the idea, what it’s all about…fun and how you too can talk just like a High Seas Buccaneer.  Believe me, it’s a great fun-filled website and kids of all ages (even those grown-up ones) will have a blast bringing this holiday to life!

However, to get the whole feel for the ”Talk Like a Pirate” Day, you must dress like one!  HalloweenExpress.com has all the pirate costumes you’ll need.  They have everything from a child’s Sassy Swashbuckler Costume to an adults Captain Black Heart Pirate Costume and everything in between.

Don’t get caught without your pirate costume on September 19th or you’ll be made to walk the plank!
