Still Doing The “Time Warp” After 35 Years!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The original Rocky Horror Picture Show was released on September 26, 1975.  It’s based off a British stage play by the same name.  Still in limited release 35 years after its premiere, it has the longest-running theatrical release in film history.

It quickly gained a cult following when midnight screenings became popular in the mid to late 70′s.  Theater owners would play the record album of the RHPS soundtrack before the showing to warm up the audience giving it a party atmosphere.  Audiences soon  began participating with the film in theatres by booing the villain and cheering the heroes.  Before long the audiences sang along with every song, even acting out parts of the movie.   The huge cult following is due in part to the fan participation during these midnight showings.

Besides the soundtrack being wonderful, the costumes in this movie make the characters!  Dr Frank-N-Furter, Magenta, Riff Raff and Columbia all have over-the-top wild costumes.  Talk about a great theme for your Halloween costumes this year!

Next week’s episode of  Glee is the much-anticipated Halloween themed episode of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”  It’s fittingly titled “The Rocky Horror Glee Show.”  Finn and Rachel naturally play Brad and Janet, Kurt plays Riff Raff and Mercedes plays Dr. Frank-N-Furter.  Glee is such a good show and The Rocky Horror Glee Show is going to be one you don’t want to miss!

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest

Just because the festivities of Oktoberfest are over, doesn’t mean we can’t keep celebrating! One sure way to keep one of the most popular German traditions alive is to wear an Oktoberfest costume for Halloween. Oktoberfest and Halloween are both fun and festive celebrations in the month of October. Candy is to Halloween what beer is to Oktoberfest!

Halloweenexpress.com has some great Oktoberfest costumes!  If you have a significant other, it would be a lot of fun wearing the Oktoberfest girl and the Lederhosen guy costumes!

Oktoberfest

If you’ve never been to an Oktoberfest celebration in your neck of the woods, you’re missing out on a lot of fun! Even though the original Oktoberfest was held in Munich, Germany in 1810, you don’t have to travel all the way to Germany to get a feel for what Oktoberfest is all about; German immigrants brought the tradition with them to the United States. It’s not surprising then that in the US, with the high percentages of people of German heritage, there are hundreds of local Oktoberfest celebrations.

I found this list of the top ten Oktoberfest celebrations online.
