Joust In Time For the Renaissance Festival!

If you’ve never been to a Renaissance Festival then you should definitely make 2008 your year to go!  As they say, it’s like 400 years of fun in a single day!  This year the 19th annual Ohio Renaissance Festival runs from August 30th thru October 19th.  What better way to spend a nice fall day than to be entertained by valient knights or swindling pirates?  The “Open-air Marketplace” is amazing with all the arts and crafts from a time long, long ago.  It’s always fun to do a little 16th century shopping with 21st century plastic!

By today’s standards it’s almost impossible to find a place to go as a family where everyone can have fun and enjoy themselves no matter what their age.  The Renaissance festival is one such place!  Furthermore, they encourage visitors to enter into the spirit of things with costumes and audience participation.  What better way to do this than by wearing one of our Renaissance costumes when you go.  We have them in all sizes for men, women and children.  So grab a costume and step back to a historic time of jousting, Robin Hood and Queen Elizabeth I.  You’ll be glad you did!

Cowboys and Indians

Growing up I remember my brother’s running around the backyard playing cowboy and Indians.  They would chase each other for hours with my older brother Brian playing the gun slinging cowboy and my younger brother Kyle chasing right behind him wearing his Indian war bonnet and waving around his precious tomahawk (talk about an accident waiting to happen).  Of course I always wanted to play the little Indian girl but there was no way they were going to let a girl play in their “manly” war game, especially their sister!

Today, children still play cowboy and Indians, and I believe our children’s children will play cowboy and Indians – it’s a rich part of our past heritage.  I just love to watch the old Western’s on television with the rugged cowboys in their leather duster and chaps.  The good guys always won!

The blockbuster movie 3:10 to Yuma was just released in September to rave reviews.  It’s about a small-time rancher that agrees to hold a captured outlaw who’s awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma.  It’s bringing the modern day cowboy back to the forefront just in time for Halloween season.  I think you’re going to be seeing a lot of cowboys (adults and children) at costume parties and out trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Then you had academy award winning movies like “The Last of the Mohicans” and “Dances With Wolves” in the early 90’s that had every child wanting to be an American Indian.  These were definitely two of my all time favorite movies ever!

If you want to see some of the coolest and sexiest cowboy and Indian costumes this year for Halloween, go to Cowboy and Indian Halloween Costumes and Indian Costumes.  These costumes aren’t just for guys anymore; the girls are bringing it on with cute and sexy costumes that will drive any cowboy wild!  Don’t want to be a cowgirl or Indian Princess? More Great Costumes

Have you seen our new line of Everlast costumes?  They’re the satin boxing shorts, robes and gloves with Everlast printed on them.  Today, with as big as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is, this costume is sure to be a huge hit.  The great thing about this costume is that it comes in boys/mens sizes toddler, child and adult and girls/womens sizes child and adult.  There is even an Everlast costume for women as the Ring Card Girl.  Check out all our Everlast costumes at Everlast Halloween Costumes.

There were some great cartoons on Saturday mornings when I was growing up.  Two of my favorites were the Flintstones and the Jetsons.  They were on complete opposite sides of the spectrum where the Flinstones was a great cartoon about two friends and their families from the past where as the Jetsons was a really cool cartoon about a family that lives in the future.  Both were great shows!  Who can forget Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble or George and Jane Jetson.   If you had two couples and needed a costume idea for a group, what about Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty?  Or if you’re going as a couple you could always go as Pebbles and Bam Bam.  Make sure you check out our whole line of The Flinstones and The Jetsons costumes at  The Flinstones and Jetsons Halloween Costumes.

Tim Burton is a film director known mostly for the quirky and gothic atmosphere of his films.  Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are just a few of the movies he has directed.  All of these movies have excellent characters to base a Halloween Costume on – Edward has hands made of scissors, Jack Skellington, and Willy Wonka are all fun characters to play.  You can see these and much more at  Tim Burton Movie Halloween Costumes.

Summer Movies

This summer there were so many great movie blockbusters that it’s a gold mine out there for Halloween costumes.  The hardest part you’ll have will be deciding which character to be.  I’ve already written about quite a few of the summer movies and some of the more popular costumes, but it seems there’s always another great movie out there to talk about.

One such movie is 300.   It is a film adaptation of the graphic novel (which is a type of comic book) by Frank Miller, and is a fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae.  Spartan King Leonidas (the good guy) and 300 Spartans fight to the last man against Persian King Xerxes (the bad guy) and his army of over one million soldiers.  It was released on March 7, 2007 and broke box office records.  I went to see the movie with my nephew, who had already seen it twice before.  Even though I had never seen so many shields, spears and swords in one movie in my life, I loved it.  It was not just a bloody battle movie like you would think, but had a great story line and Queen Gorgo, who was the beautiful wife of King Leonidas, was a true heroine in my eyes.  It was unbelievable how realistic the different scenes were and the graphics in this movie were amazing to say the least!  Did you know that except for one scene where horses travel across the countryside, this movie was shot entirely indoors in Montreal using bluescreens?  Now that’s amazing!

I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of Spartans this Halloween.  It would make an excellent couple costume to go as King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo or you could go as a group and add a few Spartan Warriors.  Check out our website for all your 300 movie Halloween Costumes: 300 the Movie Halloween Costumes

Speaking of great popular group costumes, an epic movie series that’s been around forever and will always be popular with children and adults alike is Star Wars – “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…..”  Talk about some great characters costumes to choose from!  Can you believe that the original Star Wars movie was released in May 1977?  Since then five sequels spanned from then until Revenge of the Sith was released in May 2005.  To date, the entire Star Wars franchise has grossed around $6.6 billion, making it one of the most successful franchises of all time.  It wouldn’t be Halloween without a Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader ringing your doorbell.  We have all your Star Wars costumes here: Star Wars Halloween Costumes

High School Musical Costumes

The closer it gets to Halloween, the more people look to the popular tv and latest released hit movies to see what costume is going to be the “in” thing this year.

Well I can tell you what I think will be hot this year for children – does East High Wildcats or Lava Springs Country Club sound familiar?  It should if you have children!  It’s High School Musical 2!  Wow, can you believe how popular that show is?  According to USA Today, the Nielsen ratings reported that on August 17th, 17.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the premier on the Disney Channel.  This number made it the most watched cable telecast in history.  That is amazing!  My three kids were definitely part of that crowd because they were literally glued to the television while it was on.  I think we’ll see a lot of kids dressed this Halloween as Zach, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor.

The original High School Musical was released on January 20, 2006 and was one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies produced.  The film’s soundtrack was the best-selling album that year.  I’m sure they knew then that its sequel, High School Musical 2, would make it to the history books.  Apparently a second sequel, High School Musical 3, is slated for release in 2008 with that film debuting in movie theaters. Wow, it looks like this whole High School Musical phenomonon will be the “in” costumes next year too!   The DVD of High School Musical 2 is expected to arrive in mid December, just in time for the perfect Christmas present! Check out the High School Musical costumes here: High School Muscial Halloween Costumes.

Another “in” costume for the girls will be the Bratz characters.  Bratz: The Movie, was released earlier this month and the costumes for Cloe, Sasha, Jade and Yasmin are flying off the shelf.  And it’s not just the characters themselves – you can be a Bratz cheerleader, a pirate, a witch or a Bratz devil.  There are many to choose from and your daughter will love them.  You can see more Bratz Halloween Costume here: Bratz Halloween Costumes.

Check back in a couple days for more postings on my blog with some more of the latest popular Halloween costumes for adults and children.
