Yard Haunts!

I was taking my son to football practice the other day and couldn’t believe how many people already have their yards decorated for Halloween!  Every year it seems like homes are being decorated earlier and earlier and I love it!  After we got home the first thing I did was head downstairs to dig up some of our Halloween boxes filled with all of our decorations and brought them up.  The kids had a blast looking through everything with me and are biting at the bit to get outside and start decorating.

I’ve always said that my favorite part of fall is when I see the big orange pumpkins all lined up out in front of the grocery store.  To me, the pumpkins mean fall is here and Halloween is right around the corner.  Well low and behold the pumpkins are finally here!!  The weather all this week is in the 70′s making it a perfect entrance into the fall season.  Many of the pumpkin patches are opening this weekend and I can’t wait to take the kids.

At HalloweenExpress.com we have everything you need to turn your yard into the best Yard Haunt in the neighborhood.  You’ll be the envy of the neighborhood! Tombstones, skeletons, grim reapers, cemetery signs and fog machines are just a few of the haunting decorations and accessories you find at Halloween Express.   Now is as good time as any to start decorating for everyone’s favorite holiday – Halloween!

How Would You Liked That Shipped?

Alright so we’re already into the second week of September and I’m not quite sure where the first week went!  Next week the kids will already have been in school for a month!  With time flying as usual you don’t have much time before Halloween comes knocking on your door.  By the time you figure out what (or who) you want to be, where to find the costume in your size and order it – Halloween will be here.  Be sure to take into consideration shipping time too!

Now is a great time to order online here at HalloweenExpress.com because in most cases orders that are placed before 3:00pm EST are shipped out the same day.   Once October comes around and costume orders become increasing higher in demand shipping may take a little longer.  Anytime you place an order online you can always refer to our shipping ”delivery calculator“ to see all of our available shipping options.  Plus you’ll get to see an estimated delivery date for your order for each of those shipping options making it easier for you when checking out.

Also, any order $65 or over is eligible for “free expedited economy shipping” to most addresses within the continental US.  How great is that?  When I’m shopping online there is nothing better than seeing that “free shipping” icon!  What’s really cool is that at HalloweenExpress.com they offer absolutely free shipping (no minimum order) to all APO and FPO military addresses.  For everything you need to know about shipping go to “shipping and handling“.

September is Football!

The long summer days are coming to an end, the kids are back in school and autumn is in the air.  That can only mean one thing – Halloween is coming!  We have a bunch of big Oak trees in our backyard and I can’t believe that the leaves are starting to change color and beginning to fall already.  The official first day of fall isn’t until September 22nd, so it seems a little early yet, but since autumn is my favorite time of year I’m not complaining.  I love when the weather cools down, the leaves change beautiful shades of orange and yellow and the start of one of my other favorite things – football season!  Go Bengals!

Labor Day weekend is upon us and I consider that the unofficial ending of summer – the last big bang!  Since a lot of people are off work on Monday, Sunday is a big day of picnics, parades, family get togethers and neighborhood party’s.  The weather here this weekend is supposed to be beautiful in the upper 80′s so I’ll be having my family and friends over for a little swimming, a little barbeque and a lot of fun!

Did you know that Labor Day is always the first Monday in September and is created from the labor movement and dedicated to the achievements of American workers?  It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the prosperity and well-being of our country.  Therefore, it is appropriate that the nation give recognition on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation’s strength, freedom and leadership – the American worker -white collar, blue collar or no collar, every worker should get a pat on the back!

Labor Day also kicks off my official count down to Halloween - 60 days and counting!  Now is as good of a time as any to not just think about what you want to be for Halloween, but get out there and start ordering.  HalloweenExpress.com sends out some discount coupons to everyone on their email list.  If you haven’t signed up yet click here: “sign up now” or go to our home page, scroll down and click on the orange “sign up now” icon at the bottom left hand side of the page.

If you’re like me and love football check out some of our great football costumes for men, women and children.  There’s something for everyone!

Happy Labor Day!!

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

I’m sure there are many people out there today that are afraid of the dark.  I know I am to an extent.  My fears of course are mostly irrational and caused from watching way too many scary movies.  Just think, if there were never any horror films made would you really be that afraid of the dark?  Fear of darkness is known as Achluophobia and it is definitely a real phobia for some people.  The fear is unwarranted and persistent and the reason for a lot of unnecessary distress in many peoples lives.

Horror films have been around since the late 1890′s and since that time have strived to elicit this fear from the viewers (and they do a darn good job of it).  Halloween is known as a time of year when scary movies are in abundance.  It’s the whole Halloween haunting mentality that brings out the ghost hunters and thrill seekers.  Haunted houses, haunted woods, haunted graveyards…they all thrive on darkness and bringing out your deepest fears of the unknown.

Haunted houses are definitely not for you if you have any fear of darkness.  The whole premise revolves around darkened rooms, basements, attics and even darkened corners!  Many people love the fear they get when entering a pitch black haunted house where you don’t know what’s waiting for you in the darkness.  The not knowing is what causes your palms to sweat, your heart rate to speed up and your imagination to run wild.  Me, I think I’ll stick to the good old tractor hay rides and pumpkin patches – you know, the kind of things you do at Halloween during the daytime!

Are You a Ghost Hunter?

First of all you have ghost “hunting” and ghost “investigation”.  Ghost hunting is going to a location that may or may not be haunted and trying to capture them on video and/or photos.  Ghost investigation is going to a known haunted place and recording data (video, photos, audio and temperatures), taking notes, interviews and other evidence to prove/disprove the haunting and existence of ghosts.  The more experienced hunters investigate and document reports of ghosts, hauntings and paranormal activity, where as many of the amateur ghost hunters are just out to have fun.  I believe that most teenagers that go out on Halloween night to ghost hunt in the graveyards, haunted bridges and buildings are out to have fun and get scared, not to really be considered “investigators”.  My nephew Aiden has been doing it for several years now with his friends and they love it.  Me, I’m not one to purposely put myself in a situation where I’d be scared half to death, so ghost hunting is definitely not on my list of things to do!

Today ghost hunting is becoming increasingly popular with amateur ghost hunters, in part due to the easy access of information on the internet and all the current television shows about hauntings.  Since the whole spirit of Halloween revolves around the souls of the dead returning to earth to haunt the living, Halloween night is considered a prime time for hunting ghosts.  The definition of a “haunting” is a recurring presence of a ghost, demon or similar supernatural being at a specific place.  Old houses, hotels, restaurants, pubs, prisons, cemeteries and graveyards are the most common haunted places.

So this year on Halloween night get your friends together and go out ghost hunting.  Who knows, you might just see one of the “souls from the dead” – let’s just hope it’s a happy soul!  Me, the only ghosts I want to see on Halloween night are the “souls of the living” in a ghost costume ringing my doorbell and saying trick-or-treat!
