I Don’t Want to Grow Up-Do You?

Angelica

All right big kids, its time to listen up!  As September is winding down, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that it’s really starting to feel like fall.  Hopefully you’ve been busily hauling out all your fall yard decorations and are getting excited about the fun that is just around the corner.  Soon it will be October, and you know what that means, right?  It’s finally time for Halloween!

It’s not too soon to start planning out what you are going to wear to your Halloween party.  Halloween falls on a Monday this year, so you may even need a costume to wear to work if your office does that sort of thing.  (Ours definitely does.)  There is nothing worse than a ‘night-before-scramble’ trying to pull something together to wear to work and then sadly falling very short.  This is the perfect year to impress your friends with costume savvy; come on, it’s easy!

For starters, think about something truly original.  One of the hottest trends right now is found in the simple skin suit.  These suits, which literally cover your body in poly/lycra from head to toe, can serve a plethora of functions.   First of all, these skin suits are a wonderful base layer for any imaginative costume idea you can come up with.  The skin-toned suit will give you modesty and coverage when you want a look that requires a nude or skin-tone appearance underneath.  Let’s say you are a semi-hairy man that wants to don a tutu and be a ballerina for Halloween.  Hey, a body suit isn’t a bad idea is it?  The colored ones are great to recreate superheroes; comic book character looks or they even make a bold under suit of sorts if you just want to dress a little wacky for a football game at your ol’ alma mater.  The green suit, worn with an uber-creepy, extraterrestrial-looking mask makes a fabulous alien look.  Let your imagination go wild with these super versatile and fun skin suits!

Looking for something a little more traditional and perhaps a tad tamer?  Take a historical adventure back to the Greek or Roman Empire and don the finery of a Roman Warrior or a Grecian Goddess.  It’s about time for your inner Goddess or hidden Warrior to come out and make a grand entrance—these costumes will help you to look and act the part!

For you serious gamers out there, a video game character costume may be the perfect way to bring one of your favorite characters to life.  Get your game on with American McGee characters or perhaps the stunning ninja assassin Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.   You are going to find a large selection of wildly realistic renditions of the stars from all your favorite video games.  For a hilarious take on everyone’s favorite  ‘app’—you can even recreate one of the giggling Angry Birds with one of the season’s most popular Angry Bird Costumes – now that’s funny and original stuff!

A swashbuckling Jack Sparrow and his beguiling sidekick Angelica may be just the dynamic duo to take your Halloween adventure out onto the high seas.  Or if scaring the living daylights out of your friends is more your style, get some ghastly attention with a really creepy rendition of Ghostface or Red Skull.  Feeling blue? A whimsical Smurfette may be just what you need to put some comic shenanigans into your Halloween fun.

No matter where your imagination wants to take your costume this Halloween, you shouldn’t wait another minute to get yours because just like all Halloween spooks these costumes will eventually just fade away!

The Gang’s All Here!

Group Costume Ideas

This Halloween you may have been considering dressing up as part of a group with a specific theme in mind.  Group dressing for the holiday has become extremely popular over the past few years.   You and all your friends can show up at your next Halloween party each dressed in his own themed character, and what an exciting impact your group of costumes will create!  Families can have a lot of fun dressing up together in themed costumes as well.  Choosing a theme that either reflects the personality of your family or is something fun that you all enjoy is a great way to come together and get into the spirit of this great dress up holiday.

There are many costume themes available to choose from, with ideas for virtually any age group or costume genre.  If you have kids (or even if you don’t) you may want to consider dressing up as a group of Crayola crayons.  These whimsical costumes that look just like crayons come in many different colors as well as sizes, so each member of your group can choose his favorite color.  This is a perfect costume idea for families!

If classic Rock ‘n Roll is more your thing and you and your group really want to go all out, consider recreating the band members from one of the greatest rock bands of all time, KISS.  Exciting and fun make up effects along with authentic costumes scream “I wanna rock-n-roll all night!!”  These KISS replica looks are going to give you a Halloween experience that is not only memorable but might even attract a few groupies.  Don’t forget to include the kids in the fun—they might not remember KISS but they are going to love the idea of really rocking out!

The story of Alice in Wonderland offers a plethora of rich characters to recreate as a group for Halloween.  Between Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire cat and the Queen of Hearts, your group will come alive with the entire cast from this great children’s adventure tale.  This fantastic trip down the rabbit hole may be the most exciting one yet!

Recreating several Superheroes may be one of the most thrilling Halloween group adventures of all.  You can choose to be an eclectic mix of several heroes, with each group member picking their favorite from great choices like Spiderman, the Green Lantern and Wonder Woman.  Or you may want to stick with one superhero movie theme and recreate the entire cast from it with choices such as Batman, Robin, Cat Woman, and The Joker.

Dressing in costume as a group of friends or with your entire family will amplify your Halloween fun immensely and will make your party or trick or treating experience that much more fun.  Get into an exciting Halloween group theme and make your holiday anything but BOO-ring!

Haunted Decorating Ideas

Tombstones and spooky graveyard scenes

As mid-September approaches, you’ve probably already packed away your pool toys and summer inflatables for the cooler months and are now getting geared up for the crisper fall weather.  The days are growing shorter and by now your kids have probably gotten into a back to school groove.  The back to school rush is over and now that kids all have their school supplies, the stores are already filled up with fall merchandise, much of it surrounding Halloween.

You may have been contemplating some fall and Halloween style decorations for your home and for your yard as well, and believe it or not, it’s not too soon to start putting them out now as the cool crisp days of fall are nearly upon us.

One of the newest trends in Halloween decorations that will create both a dramatic as well as festive flair to any yard or garden is that of inflatable yard art.  At night when the decoration is inflated and illuminated, the figure literally comes to life with nearly animated features that create an exciting effect with a very huge impact.  These are decorations that cannot be ignored and create a lot of bang for your buck.

Another very versatile prop to own is that of a completely posable dummy.  The generic dummy form can be dressed in any costume that you like and can be changed from year to year for versatility and to go along with the theme of your other decorations.  Make sure your porch has a dressed for Halloween personage there both to scare as well as watch over all of the festivities.

A really fun idea for your yard at Halloween is to recreate the scene of a graveyard.  Complete with disinterred spooks, some ground breaking skeletons and a few tombstones your yard can be transformed into a frightful scene that is sure to scare a few trick or treaters.  While you are at it, be sure to add a few animated props to your eerie Halloween scene.   Props that move, talk ghoulishy or jump out at appropriate times are always tried and true favorites for good ol’ Halloween scares.

Halloween is the second most popular holiday for home and yard decorating, so you won’t want to wait to pick out your favorite selections.  Get what you want now because just like most Halloween spooks, after a while this stuff will simply cease to exist. With the right decorations and props your Halloween is going to be absolutely spook-tacular!

It’s Summer Blockbuster Time!

Summer Blockbusters

It’s that time of year again—the season every die-hard movie lover looks forward to.  It’s summer blockbuster time!   Now that the warmer weather is here there will be throngs of people choosing to escape the heat by heading into the air-conditioned movie theater for some great summertime entertainment.

This summer could very easily be called “The Year of the Sequel” as many if not most of the biggest summer blockbusters scheduled to be released are sequels, prequels or movie franchises.  If you can’t get too much of a good thing—this is definitely a great summer for movies.  We’ve compiled our list of the best of the sequels not to be missed this year.

This movie has some big shoes to fill as the original Hangover was a surprise mega hit back in 2008.  The entire crazy gang is back to create more mayhem in this sequel that is bound to be a huge hit or a bad case of a “been there, done that.”

Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom (May 27, 2011)

The big, chubby Panda Kung-Fu martial artist returns for more crazy fun.  This animated adventure stars the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Gary Oldman and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Owen Wilson stars as the voice of Lightning McQueen who with Mater the incredible tow truck, (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take on the World Grand Prix.  The journey isn’t going to be easy—lots of pit stops, detours and hilarious shenanigans along the way will make this Pixar film a sure fire summer kid favorite.

Transformers: Dark of The Moon (July 1, 2011)

Shia La Beouf, Tyrese Gibson, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Ken Jeong star in this latest installment of this action packed and very noisy movie franchise.  Shia La Beouf and his giant robots discover all sorts of crazy stuff going on over there on the dark side of the moon.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part II (July 15, 2011)

This is the final installment of this film franchise-one of the most popular and lucrative of all time.  Even though we will be sad to see an end to Harry Potter and his Hogwort associates, this finale is bound to be a huge hit as well as a sentimental favorite this summer.  Harry and the gang try to find Voldemort’s horcruxes and Voldemort himself and destroy them once and for all in what is bound to be all out war.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (August 5, 2011)

This ancient franchise has been exhumed again for a new generation to behold.  The setting is modern-day San Francisco and there is an epic battle between the now intelligent apes created by modern scientists and man. The film stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow and starring as the big ape, Andy Serkis.

Spy Kids 4:  All The Time In The World (August 19, 2011)

The fourth installment of the hit movie franchise, Spy Kids 4 is set to be released in some theatres in 3D.   Jessica Alba stars as a retired secret agent who is now a wife and mother.  She is called back into action when a crazy Timekeeper threatens to take over the planet.

Final Destination 5 (August 26, 2011)

You can’t beat death…or can you?  We thought the final destination had been reached after the first film but apparently there is enough ways to beat up, mangle and hack up doomed teenagers to inspire this 5th film in the series.

Jersey Shore Mania!

Jersey Shore Cast

Jersey Shore Cast

Wow I can’t believe how big Jersey Shore has become!  It’s like watching a train wreck, you don’t want to but you just can’t help yourself.  MTV really hit the big time with this little reality series about a group of twenty-something year olds living together and partying it up (GTL – gym, tan, laundry) for the summer in Seaside Heights, NJ.  Can you believe season one premiered in December 2009 to 1.37 million viewers and season 3 premiered in January 2011 with record ratings of 8.45 million viewers!  It’s so popular that the cast of Jersey Shore made Barbara Walter’s “10 Most Fascinating People” list!

Because it’s such a huge hit with high school and religiously watched by college students, it’s no surprise that the stars of Jersey Shore were popular Halloween costumes last year.  Snooki was the most popular by far!  It’s an easy costume – lots of poof in the hair, lots of bronzer and a short skirt and you’re ready to go!  Pauly D was also fun to portray with tons of hair gel and Ed Hardy t-shirt and jeans and you’ve got the look.  You couldn’t have made up a better cast of characters for all the college students to dress up as for Halloween.

Season one and three were filmed at the Jersey Shore and season two was filmed in Miami, Florida.   But wait, there’s still another season to come with the group heading to Italy for season four.  Now that should be interesting!  I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Snooki, JWoww, Sammi, Pauly D, the Situation, Ronnie and Vinny!
