Happy Halloween – Family Style!

Wow I can’t believe we are into the month of August already!  Once again time is flying by and before you know it we’ll be into September then into one of my favorite months, October – which we all know leads us straight to Halloween!  And speaking of Halloween have you been looking around for your costume by chance?  At Halloween Express we are a one stop shop where you can get anything and everything related to the Halloween holiday with the touch of a button.  It’s that easy!

Because we have one of the largest selections of Halloween costumes anywhere it can be a little overwhelming trying to see everything in order to make your selection so we’ve made it a little easier for you.  My favorite is the ”family costume idea” page – what a great idea!  Since our children are little my husband and I take turns walking around the neighborhood with them as they trick-or-treat.  One goes with the kids and the other stays at home and gives out the candy.   We always switch off half way through so that we both get to be out with the kids.  The “family costume” page is filled with great ideas for parents with children to all dress with the same costume theme.

Some of my favorite ”family costume ideas ” are:

All these themed family costumes are really amazing when everyone has on something from the “theme” you decide to go with.  It doesn’t have to be one of the themes we show, you can make one up on your own using some of our other great costume ideas.  Just have fun with whatever theme you decide to go with.   If your kids see you having a great time out on Halloween night, they will too!

It Only Takes a Costume To Become a Superhero!

My son Caden turned nine last Wednesday so we had a big birthday party for him at our house on Saturday.  I let Cade pick out the theme for his party and he decided on “Superheroes”.  With the Batman movie The Dark Knight being released Friday he already knew that’s exactly who he wanted to be.  So Friday night my husband and I took him to see the movie (with everybody else in the free world).  It was packed but honestly it was really cool because everybody in the theater was cheering on Batman so Cade really got into it.  By the way, the movie was (as Cade would say) AWESOME!  I was looking forward to it because I liked Batman Returns, but I had no idea it would be as good as it was.  In my blog earlier that day I said that a lot of reviews had Heath Ledger earning an oscar for his role as Joker and now that I’ve seen the movie, I wholeheartedly agree with it!  He was amazing.  You would have never guessed it was Heath Ledger playing the part.  Nothing in the Joker’s character would have given it away.  Anyway, if you haven’t seen the movie you should!

Back to the party…  Caden made a very handsome Batman (if I do say so myself) and what was so neat was that every one of his friends came as a Superhero of some sort.  Thankfully Caden was the only Batman, but we did have Superman, Spiderman, The Green Flash, Captain America, Zorro, a few of the Power Rangers, The Incredible Hulk plus a couple Ninja Turtles thrown in for good measure.  The kids loved it!  They were on a sugar high all day, running around with masks on and capes flying.

If you need an idea for a theme party for your child’s birthday, then you have to throw a “Superhero” party.  Believe me your child and their friends will have so much fun and it will be a party they won’t soon forget!  Check out our kids Superhero costume page here at Halloween Express and let your kids decide which Superhero they want to be for the day!

Are You Ready for The Dark Knight?

“Out of the Darkness Comes the Knight”!  A tagline from one of the most anticipated summer movies being released today, The Dark Knight.  It’s the sequel to the 2005 movie Batman Begins.  Batman is back and he’s better than ever!

One of the reasons I think a lot of people want to see this movie is to see Heath Ledger play the role of the archvillian Joker.  It’s still hard to believe that he passed away weeks after wrapping the film at the young age of 28.  Every review that I’ve read about Heath Ledger is that whether or not you are a huge fan of his, he was completely believable as the terrifying prince of crime and deserves an Oscar nomination for his role as Joker.  That’s pretty amazing if you ask me!  What I think makes the Joker so real and creepy is that Ledger doesn’t wear a mask in this movie, it’s all done with special effects makeup.  To get the smudged, scary look a makeup artist sprayed water over Heath’s black-rimmed eyes and had him shake his head so gunk dripped down his painted charlk-white face with the scarred red mouth-to-cheek grin.  His grungy hair and yellowing teeth top the look of evil off perfectly.

The Dark Knight

My favorite character has to be Bruce Wayne’s butler extraordinaire, Alfred  who is played by Michael Caine.  He’s the perfect father figure for Bruce, always so soft spoken and gentle.  Apparently in this movie Alfred harbors a secret that could crush his boss’s spirit.  I wonder what that could be?  Morgan Freeman, whom I absolutely love, is reprising his role as Lucius Fox, the scientist who designs all those wonderful toys that Batman gets to play with.   This time it’s the “Batpod” that’s way cool!

With everyone raving about how Dark Knight is “the blockbuster film of the year”, you can imagine that the Dark Knight and Joker costumes are flying off the shelf already!  Whether you want a mask or the deluxe costume we have everything you need here at Halloween Express.  Don’t wait – order yours today!!

Halloween Costumes for Tweens

Finding the perfect Halloween costume isn’t always easy, especially for “tweens”.  When kids are at that age they don’t want to wear a costume that makes them look like a baby, but they’re still just a little too young for the teenager look.  The word tween is used for children just before their teens “between” childhood and being teenagers, usually 8-12 years of age.   It doesn’t seem as important for boys as it does for girls since as we all know girls can be a little more dramatic about their appearance.

My son Caden will turn nine tomorrow so he’s still in the first half of the ”tween” ages, but my sister has two tween daughters that she goes round and round with at Halloween about what they can and can’t wear for costumes.  A lot of what they pick out (according to their mother) is geared more toward an older teenager and so she’s usually pulling her hair out before they finally come to a unanimous decision.

I told her about our new “Tween Scene” collection we have at Halloween Express.  It has something for every tween out there, boy or girl.  The tween girls  love the costume names like “High Seas Hottie” and “Pirate Cutie” and the mom’s love the fact that they are great costumes with enough coverage but still have that edge that a lot of the tween aged girls are looking for.

He’s Red, Horned, and Misunderstood!

Saving the world is a hell of a job; Believe it or not – he’s the good guy; Good never looked so bad…  In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, these are a few of the taglines for a huge summer movie that opens today at theaters everywhere – Hellboy II: The Golden Army by Universal Studios.  Just by seeing the trailers that have been on televsion for the last couple weeks, it looks like it’s going to be great movie that both kids and adults alike will want to see.

One review said that it is by far the most imaginative action movie in ages – a mix of epic fantasy, tender romance, broad comedy and double-barreled excitement that will surely satisfy.  Not to shabby considering the main character is a spawn of satan called Hellboy who apparently also has a down-to-earth side with a fondness for Cuban cigars, Mexican beer, TV and candy.

Here’s a quick “what’s it about” in a nutshell:  After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt.  A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures (aka: The Golden Army).  Now, it’s up to the planet’s toughest, roughest superhero Hellboy – or “Red” to his friends – to battle the merciless dictator and his army.

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie because I like the fact that it has a little bit of everything in it – action, comedy, romance and sci-fi all rolled into one; good v/s evil.  With a so-called superhero as charming as “Red” you can bet we’ll see a lot of Hellboy’s running around during the Halloween season.  At Halloween Express we have everything from the vinyl face mask to the full deluxe costume in both children and adult sizes.  So hurry and order one today!!
