Spring Break – Florida Style!

Well, it’s that time of the school year again that the children love – spring break!  While parents are busy putting the finishing touches on their travel plans the kids are busy counting down the days.

This year we’ve decided to take the kids to Florida with a big group of our friends and their children. Because flying is so expensive, especially with three kids, we’re packing up the minivan and heading south.  Of course my husband had to pick a city in Florida that is just about as far south as you can go on the Gulf side, Ft Myers Beach.  From our house the drive can take as much as 18 hours or as little as 15 depending on who’s driving.  My husband likes to drive straight through with minimal stopping, however I enjoy stopping for actual dinners, not just drive thru’s.  When you have three kids in the car you have to stop and let them stretch their legs and get some of the energy out or else the end up taking all that energy out on each other while we’re driving.  And just like his father before him, my husbands favorite line while driving is, “Don’t make me turn this car around.”  By now the kids are pretty familiar with this line and knowing that he really won’t stop when we’re closer to our destination than home, it doesn’t really have much affect.

This year’s Spring break will put us in Ft Myers the week of St Patrick’s Day.  It works out perfectly because I can still have our annual family party the weekend before we leave.  A couple that is going with us love St. Patrick’s Day and want to throw a party on the beach while we’re there for the kids.  They’ll love it and it will be great letting the kids get in on all the fun.

HalloweenExpress.com has everything you’ll need to throw the best party.  St. Patrick’s Day costumes, accessories and decorations galore are right at your fingertips!

Bring the Party of Mardi Gras to You!

Well Valentine’s Day has come and gone and the stores are already getting their shelves ready for Easter.  Whether you decided to make it a romantic couple weekend or a family fun weekend, I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Now onto Mardi Gras, February 24th!  Talk about a party atmosphere in New Orleans!  Wow that is one city I would love to visit during Mardi Gras.  I’ve been there before and have done the whole Bourbon Street thing, but would love to see the parades and parties and the craziness associated with Fat Tuesday!

If you can’t make it to the biggest party in the world in New Orleans, then by all means bring the madness of Mardi Gras to you!  Throw a Mardi Gras theme party right in your own back yard.   Decorate in the Mardi Gras colors so well known throughout the country of purple, green and gold.  Balloons, tablecloths, beads, hats, masks and noisemakers all in these colors will make your partygoers feel as if they’re in the French Quarter.  Don’t forget the music!  It can’t be a Mardi Gras party without the music!  It’s not one type of music but various sounds played together that make it unique to Carnival in New Orleans.  Rhythm and blues, jazz and brass/funk get people up and dancing.  Whip up some great Cajun cuisines like Jambalaya, Gumbo or Crawfish Boil.

However, the ultimate Mardi Gras party, rest assured, is in the costumes!  The King’s Jesters can be found running around everywhere.  Masks and costumes made of sequins, metallic and lots and lots of feathers.  Around the necks of your partygoers will be feathered boas and multicolored beads.  Dressing up in the Mardi Gras theme is so much fun!

HalloweenExpress.com has everything you’ll need for all your Mardi Gras party needs!  From Mardi Gras masks and jester hats to feathered boas and Mardi Gras beads.

Luck of the Irish!

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th and although it’s still a month away it’s never too early to start getting all your “green” together for the party’s, dances and parades.

Every year my family throws a huge St. Patrick’s Day party the weekend before.  It’s actually a lot of fun planning and preparing everything from the decorations to the food.  My grandma on my mother’s side was as Irish as they come.  Her name was Mary O’Brien and she was an amazing lady with a heart of gold.  She passed away a few years back, so now our annual St. Patrick’s Day party is dedicated to her memory (which makes it even more special).

Costumes are always a big hit at our party and there’s never a shortage of the Lucky Charms Leprechaun costume!  Even though the leprechaun really isn’t an Irish take on St. Patrick’s Day (it’s more of an American tradition), it’s still fun to see everyone dressed in costume and having fun.   Some other great ideas are green balloons, green tablecloths, green lights and of course the green beer!  What’s St. Patrick’s Day without green beer?

Start a St. Patrick’s Day tradition with your friends and family this year whether it be a party, parade or dinner.  HalloweenExpress.com has everything you’ll need from St. Patrick’s Day costumes and accessories to decorations.  Make this St. Patrick’s Day one to remember!

Don’t Forget to Read!

Dr. Seuss’ Read Across America Day is only 24 days away – do you know where your books are?  It’s always held on the first Monday in March and it just so happens that this year it’s on Monday, March 2, which is actually Dr. Seuss’s birthday!

Dr. Seuss is one of the most beloved children’s authors around the world.  Children everywhere love to read Dr. Seuss.  As a child my mom used to read Dr. Seuss books to me and I followed the tradition and read them to my children and they’ll read them to their children and so on, and so on, and so on…

If you have a lot of children in your neighborhood a great idea is to throw a Read Across America party!  Get all the children together and use the theme of Cat In The Hat to decorate with props and costumes.  Have the children play games and just let them have fun.  When all the games are done, have all the children sit around the room while a mother or father reads aloud from a Dr. Seuss book.   Let them feel like they’re part of it by having them repeat special phrases aloud with you.

HalloweenExpress.com can help with all your party needs.  Have all the children wear Cat In The Hat Deluxe Hats as they come in the house.  The mother or father who reads to them can add fun to the night by dressing in a Cat In The Hat adult costume.  The children will love it!!

Dr. Seuss understood how important it is that children love to read.  Now we can do our part by supporting literacy in our own community!

I Do Solemnly Swear…

Next week on January 20, 2009, President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn-in as the 44th President of the United States.  The first President to ever do this was of course President George Washington on April 30, 1789.  What I think is really interesting is that the ceremonial traditions that were established by George Washington at his first presidential inauguration have been followed into present day, such as;

  • using a Bible when taking the oath of office
  • reading an inaugural address
  • attending an inaugural ball

Attending the 2009 Inauguration is a hot ticket by any means.  Hotels around the Washington D.C. area have been booked to capacity for months now.  A lot of people will be throwing parties and celebrating this historic event with their family and friends.

If you’re thinking about having an “Inauguration 2009″ party, HalloweenExpress.com is the perfect place to get all your Presidential party needs!  With the help of some of their great presidential costumes and masks, you can actually have President-elect Barack Obama at your party along with Bill and Hillary Clinton.  How cool would it be to have President’s George Washington and Abraham Lincoln there as well, not only in spirit but with the help of an amazing mask from HalloweenExpress.com they can be there in person as well!

This will be one Inauguration party that your friends will be talking about for years to come!
