Horror Movies

There are a lot of great horror movies out in the theaters now, but a few more have recently been released just in time for a little scare amid the Halloween season:

30 Days of Night – The movie takes place in Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost town in the U.S, where the winter sun sets and does not rise for 30 days and nights. From the darkness comes an evil force that strikes terror on the town, and all hope is pinned on a husband-and-wife cop team.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D – Jack Skellington, (aka the Pumpkin King), is bored with his job and feels that life in Halloweenland lacks meaning. Then he stumbles upon Christmastown and promptly decides to make the Yuletide his own. Check out our “Jack Skellington” costumes at Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween Costumes

Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour – The first in a series of Sarah Landon Mysteries.  Far away from home, Sarah Landon finds herself all alone, staying in the guesthouse of her late friend’s grandmother.  She didn’t realize that the guesthouse was haunted, but that soon becomes the least of the 17 year olds worries.  When she learns of the town’s dark secret she finds herself in the middle of a haunting mystery that involves two brothers, the local psychic and an evil spirit.

If a movie is not what you had in mind, maybe you could take your kids to a pumpkin patch or go on a haunted hayride. The weather has been absolutely beautiful so it’s nice to be outside.  It’s a great time to pick out that perfect pumpkin and start carving!  Don’t forget to clean the seeds, throw a little salt and garlic powder on them and throw them under the broiler for a little late night snack.

If you still haven’t decided on your costume yet, now is a good time to put that worry to rest!.  There’s going to be a lot of costume parties coming up in the next week so you’ll need to be ready.   Decide if you want your costume to be funny, scary, sexy, etc… and then go from there.  Go to our homepage, click on whatever type of costume you’re looking for, find your size and order.  It’s as simple as that!  So what are you waiting for?
Happy Shopping!

Scary Movie Night

Halloween is exactly two weeks from today!  That means there are only 14 days left before you have to put on your costume for trick-or-treating.  Unless, you’re heading to a costume party the Saturday before Halloween, then you have only 10 more days left before you have to put on that costume of yours.  The Halloween Express stores around the country are packed with people trying to find that one perfect costume.  The excitement is brewing and everyone is having fun getting ready for Halloween!  Buying costumes, decorating houses, getting all the candy “treats” together, going to pumpkin patches and haunted houses, carving pumpkins and the list goes on and on.  Halloween is a time of year for pretending and make believe – a time when we can all feel like children again!

This weekend is a good time to get together with friends and have a “movie night”.  Have everyone bring appetizers with a Halloween theme and pick a scary movie to watch.  Here are some recently released horror movies on DVD:

  • 28 Weeks Later
  • Vacancy
  • The Reaping
  • Planet Terror

Or you could just go with the “tried and true” horror flicks such as:

  • The Exorcist
  • Rosemary’s Baby
  • The Omen
  • The Amityville Horror
  • Halloween

Instead of adult horror films, you can change the theme to accommodate children and make it a family “movie night”.  We do this every year and the kids love it!  Remember, kids grow up so fast so take advantage of the fact that they will still sit with you and watch a movie!  Here are a few great Halloween shows that children love:

  • Hocus Pocus (my all time favorite)
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Halloweentown & Halloweentown II – Kalabar’s Revenge
  • Casper
  • Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie

October 31st is almost here and the “creepy” feeling around my house is getting all of us in the mood for Halloween.  Our “driveway of doom” is ready (see my blog dated August 21st) and the yard is officially a ghostly graveyard.   The kids and I are looking forward to some sugary candy this year – I’m hoping they’ll be good about sharing.
If you haven’t bought your costume yet, take this time to check out our website.  If you’re reading this then you’re already here, so click on the costume category that interest you and go for it!

You Can Be a Superhero!

How cool would it be to be a Superhero for a day?  Well, now you can – at least for Halloween.  What better character to play than one that has super powers and strength?  Ok, you might not get the super power thing, but you can still put on the costume and look just like the Superhero of your choice!  There are so many different costumes and sizes that just about everyone from a toddler to an adult can be a Superhero.  Because there’s so many to choose from they’re great for individual, couple and group costumes.  You could have a whole family of Superheroes – even your dog can find a superhero costume!

Wonder Woman:  For all you women out there that feel you play the role of Wonder Woman all the time with going to work, raising kids, doing the laundry, cleaning, making dinners, etc…, why not actually be Wonder Woman in full gear for the night and get the respect you deserve?    Wonder Woman Halloween Costume

Supergirl:  This is the woman who keeps Superman in line.  Why should he get to have all the fun?  Super Girl Halloween Costume

Batgirl:  This is one sexy Batgirl costume!  Once again, Batman’s better half.  Bat Girl Halloween Costume

Masked Beauty:  If Zorro had a gorgeous seductive female counterpart this would be her.  Mystery Hero Halloween Costume

But, hey let’s not forget about the guys!  Besides your everyday fantastic Superheroes such as, Superman, Spiderman and Batman you have a few Superheroes you don’t hear about that often.  But believe me when you put on any of the following costumes, no one will be forgetting them any time soon.

Captain America  Captain America Halloween Costume

The Incredible Hulk   Hulk Halloween Costume

Zorro  Zorro Halloween Costume

What’s great about these costumes is that most of them come in child sizes too.  Check out all our Superheroes costumes for adults/teens and children.  This Halloween you can be one of the good guys!

Cowboys and Indians

Growing up I remember my brother’s running around the backyard playing cowboy and Indians.  They would chase each other for hours with my older brother Brian playing the gun slinging cowboy and my younger brother Kyle chasing right behind him wearing his Indian war bonnet and waving around his precious tomahawk (talk about an accident waiting to happen).  Of course I always wanted to play the little Indian girl but there was no way they were going to let a girl play in their “manly” war game, especially their sister!

Today, children still play cowboy and Indians, and I believe our children’s children will play cowboy and Indians – it’s a rich part of our past heritage.  I just love to watch the old Western’s on television with the rugged cowboys in their leather duster and chaps.  The good guys always won!

The blockbuster movie 3:10 to Yuma was just released in September to rave reviews.  It’s about a small-time rancher that agrees to hold a captured outlaw who’s awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma.  It’s bringing the modern day cowboy back to the forefront just in time for Halloween season.  I think you’re going to be seeing a lot of cowboys (adults and children) at costume parties and out trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Then you had academy award winning movies like “The Last of the Mohicans” and “Dances With Wolves” in the early 90’s that had every child wanting to be an American Indian.  These were definitely two of my all time favorite movies ever!

If you want to see some of the coolest and sexiest cowboy and Indian costumes this year for Halloween, go to Cowboy and Indian Halloween Costumes and Indian Costumes.  These costumes aren’t just for guys anymore; the girls are bringing it on with cute and sexy costumes that will drive any cowboy wild!  Don’t want to be a cowgirl or Indian Princess? Let’s hear it for the Wild, Wild West!

Resident Evil

On Friday, September 21st the movie Resident Evil: Extinction was released.  It’s the third installment in the Resident Evil series.  It’s an action, horror and sci-fi thriller all rolled into one.  This movie of the “undead” zombies is just in time for the Halloween season.  The original movie, Resident Evil was released in 2002 followed by Resident Evil: Apocalypse in 2004.

The original Resident Evil made its debut in 1996 as a survival horror video game on Sony Playstation.  Here is a list of the video game sequels that followed:

Resident Evil 2 – 1998
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis – 1999
Resident Evil: Code Veronica – 2000
Resident Evil Zero – 2002
Resident Evil 4 – 2005

The movie received great reviews and took the number one spot at the box office over the weekend and grossed an estimated $24 million.  I have not seen it yet, but I did read that Resident Evil: Extinction is a must-see especially if you’re a fan of the game and to anyone who has seen the previous two movies.  It keeps up a quick pace, great action and many horrifying scares.  Sounds like you won’t be disappointed with this sequel.
Today Resident Evil is a media franchise consisting of a survival horror video game series, comic books, novelizations, three Hollywood motion pictures, and a variety of collectibles, including action figures, game guides and publications.
