Dracula Lives!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Bram Stroker’s Dracula, Blade, Fright Night, The Forsaken and who could forget, the teenage cheerleader Buffy the Vampire Slayer!  These are just a few of the moives that portray the darker side of vampires and the crusaders that slay them.  I love most vampire movies because the “slayer” always wins in the end plunging a wood stake into the heart of the vampire (or something like that).

How many times have you heard “I want to suck your blood” on Halloween night with all the black caped vampires running around trick-or-treating?  From ages 2 - 22 you’ll find these dark forbidden souls out for blood as darkness falls on Halloween night (or maybe it’s just the candy they’re after)…

The vampire has been a staple of Halloween costumes forever.  I remember running around in my little princess costume when I was about seven years old and my older brother Brian dressed as Dracula with his long black plastic cape, white make up on his face and the scariest set of fangs I had ever seen.  Actually they were only the white plastic fangs that came with the costume that were way too big for his mouth, but for a girl at seven it was pretty scary.  Today the vampire has transpired into Dracula, King of Darkness waiting for nightfall to quench his bloodlust by preying on the living.  Ok, so it might not be that grim but you get my point.  The vampire costume has come a long way from the plastic cape and big white fangs of yesterday.

Today on Halloween night, it’s not only the “king” of darkness that walks upon the earth at nightfall, but the queen and lots of little vampires running around as well.  With just the right touch of makeup and a perfect fitting set of fangs these vampires are amazingly frightening (and not only to seven year olds)!

HalloweenExpress.com has the largest selection of vampire costumes anywhere!  From the traditional evil vampire to a more sexy take on the vampiress.  With our great costumes, anyone at any age can become the next Dracula!

Hello High School Musical 3: Senior Year!

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Well, according to my daughter, it’s finally here - the movie release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year!  Her life is now complete!  If you haven’t heard of the Disney show High School Musical you either (a) don’t have children, or (b) have been living in a cave these past couple years.

High School Musical was released on January 2006 and became the most successful movie that the Disney Channel ever produced.   However when the sequel High School Musical 2: Sing it all or nothing, was released in August 2007, it brought in nearly 10 million more viewers topping it’s predecessor making it the highest rated Disney Channel Movie to date.  Now one year later the third sequel is being released, but not on the Disney Channel.  This one is the first in the series to receive a big-screen launch and I’m sure it’s going to be huge!

It’s back to the East High Wildcats with Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor for the trial and tribulations of their senior year in high school and the exciting idea of going off to college.  The movie is rated G and I love that because it’s something I can take my children to and not worry about covering their eyes and ears at certain points.

This movie release is just in time for Halloween.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of Troy and Gabriella’s trick-or-treating this year!  At HalloweenExpress.com we have everything you need to become your favorite character from High School Musical 3: Senior Year!

Group Costumes From the Past and Future!

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Growing up two of my most favorite cartoons were The Flintstones and The Jetsons.  The Flintstones is set in the stone age town of Bedrock with characters Fred Flintstone and his neighbor Barney Rubble.  Their better halves are Wilma and Betty whose favorite pastime was gossiping and shopping.  Don’t forget their kids the little sweetheart Pebbles and wild child Bam-Bam and their pet Dinosaur Dino.  Who doesn’t recognize the theme song when you hear, “Flintstones, meet the Flintstones”!  Makes you want to sing the whole thing doesn’t it?

The Jetsons is a futuristic space age cartoon which revolves around the man of the house George Jetson, along with his wife Jane, daughter Judy, son Elroy and their pet dog Astro.  It was so fun to watch the way they flew around in spaceships instead of driving a car and when it came time for dinner Jane would just push a button and a delicious meal was prepared in seconds (wow wouldn’t that be nice).

All of these characters are extremely popular and would make a great “group” costume theme.   At HalloweenExpress.com you’ll find all the characters you need to go back in time with the Flintstones or step forward in time with the Jetsons!

You’re My Princess!

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

As a little girl I grew up believing in fairy tales.  The ones where the handsome prince falls in love with a beautiful princess and they live happily ever after.  Television shows like Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty make it impossible not to.  Disney has done a wonderful job making children believe in fairy tales and the Disney costume line makes it easy to dress like a princess too.  When my daughter, Olivia puts on her princess gown and dances around the house, there’s an innocence there that takes my breath away.  I love that my children are still young enough to believe in fairy tales of princesses and happily ever after!  As we know they grow up so fast.

To many little girls, the word princess conjurs up images of elegance, beauty, kindness and gentleness.  With their beautiful dresses and sparkly crowns what little girl wouldn’t want to be a princess?  Recently here at HalloweenExpress.com we received the sweetest letter from a girl named Casey who lives in Rincon Georgia.  She designed her own princess costume called the “Ice Princess” and sent us the cutest picture of a blue dress with a big beautiful snow flake on the front.  So you see, with a great imagination (and great fashion sense) you can be your own princess this Halloween.

Here’s Casey’s design called, “Ice Princess”:

Thank you Casey!  Your design is beautiful.

You Go Girl!

With Disney shows such as High School Musical, Hannah Montanna, The Cheetah Girls and Camp Rock it’s no wonder that a lot of little girls dream of growing up to be a popstar diva.  I know first hand that my daughter’s Sydney and Olivia love to watch all these shows and can’t get to their karaoke microphone fast enough.  At the time we bought the microphone we thought it would be “cute” to watch them sing and dance in their room, however we were in for a rude awakening if we thought they would just dance and sing in their room and not the entire house!  My son, Caden begs them to stop just moments before he flings the closest not nailed down piece of furniture that he can reach.  But girls have to be girls and that means the more Caden complains the louder their singing becomes until finally mom has to step in!  The Disney shows make it fun for them to dance and sing and of course they know all the words to every song on every show.  I think it’s great and I love to watch them perform (I just need to keep them away from the rec room when Caden is trying to play his Xbox).

Girls love all the flashy outfits worn by all the teen pop stars.  The more glitter the better!  Last year for Halloween my 7-year old niece went as a Mega Child Star in full sequened and feathered costume including a cute (but fake) wireless headset microphone.  She looked adorable and thought she was just the coolest thing ever to grace their neighborhood while trick-or-treating.   This year is no different with High School Musical 3: Senior Year coming out right before Halloween and Disney’s recently released television show Camp Rock.  Kids are eating this up!

At Halloween Express we have a huge selection of “pop diva costumes“  so that every girl can feel like a rock star this Halloween!

Could It Be - High School Musical 3?

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

If you have children or if you haven’t had your head buried in the sand for the past two years, chances are you’ve either heard about or seen High School Musical and High School Musical 2 on the Disney Channel.  Did you know that when the original High School Musical came out in January 2006 it became the most successful Disney Channel Original Movie ever produced and the film’s soundtrack was the best-selling album in the United States for that year?  Plus High School Musical 2 shattered cable television records when the premiere was watched by 18.6 million viewers.  That is huge!  Disney really hit it big with this show.

But Disney didn’t stop there!  On October 24th, High School Musical 3: Senior Year is coming out in movie theaters - no more television for these guys, Disney is going straight to the big screen with this one and it’s the first Disney Channel Original Movie to do that with a sequel.

The series revolves around a group of six high school students; Troy - the basketball star, Gabriella - the math wize, Sharpay and Ryan - co-presidents of the Drama Club, Chad - Troy’s best friend and teammate and Taylor -head of the science club.  There’s a lot of singing and dancing along with all the drama of high school that kids love.   Since both High School Musical and High School Musical 2 were such huge hits I’m sure High School Musical 3: Senior Year will be just as well received!  I know my daughter is on pins and needles waiting for it to come out and she already has plans with a couple of her friends to go and see it the Friday night it opens.  I’m sure I won’t be the only mother with giggling girls at the movie theater that night!

However, the news just keeps getting better.  It seems Disney is already in the writing stages for High School Musical 4!  I’m not sure what they would call it since High School Muscial 3 is supposed to take place their senior year, but we’ll just have to wait and see what Disney will end up doing with the clan at East High!

You can bet we’ll see a lot of the High School Musical characters ringing doorbells this year on Halloween.  For the past couple of years High School Musical costumes have been extremely popular and with High School Musical 3: Senior Year coming out the week before Halloween you can bet it will be even more so this year.  So if you’re thinking of becoming Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad or Taylor for a night you’d better start ordering your costumes today!  Go East High Wildcats!

Happy Halloween - Family Style!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Wow I can’t believe we are into the month of August already!  Once again time is flying by and before you know it we’ll be into September then into one of my favorite months, October - which we all know leads us straight to Halloween!  And speaking of Halloween have you been looking around for your costume by chance?  At Halloween Express we are a one stop shop where you can get anything and everything related to the Halloween holiday with the touch of a button.  It’s that easy!

Because we have one of the largest selections of Halloween costumes anywhere it can be a little overwhelming trying to see everything in order to make your selection so we’ve made it a little easier for you.  My favorite is the ”family costume idea” page - what a great idea!  Since our children are little my husband and I take turns walking around the neighborhood with them as they trick-or-treat.  One goes with the kids and the other stays at home and gives out the candy.   We always switch off half way through so that we both get to be out with the kids.  The “family costume” page is filled with great ideas for parents with children to all dress with the same costume theme.

Some of my favorite ”family costume ideas ” are:

All these themed family costumes are really amazing when everyone has on something from the “theme” you decide to go with.  It doesn’t have to be one of the themes we show, you can make one up on your own using some of our other great costume ideas.  Just have fun with whatever theme you decide to go with.   If your kids see you having a great time out on Halloween night, they will too!

We Love Disney!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Every little girl dreams of being a princess and where else can you find the most popular princess characters than Disney.  Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, Jasmine and Aurora are characters that every girl can relate to.  I know my sisters and I were all princesses at one time or another for Halloween and I think most women can say the same thing.

Disney sure makes it easy with all the wonderful characters not only in their big screen movies, but on the Disney Channel as well.  I know I’ve seen some wonderful characters trick-or-treating from these movies:

  • The Lion King
  • Toy Story
  • Monsters Inc
  • Power Rangers
  • 101 Dalmations

And the list goes on and on.  I remember last year my niece wanted to be Hannah Montana so badly that she just couldn’t believe that her mom could not find the costume anywhere because it sold out so quickly.  That’s why you may think it’s way too early to even think about a Halloween costume, but I’m telling you it’s not.

I don’t know about you, but my daughters could not get enough of High School Musical last year.  They must have watched the original and High School Musical 2 a dozen times.  Did you know that the original musical was released on January 20, 2006 and was one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies produced.  The film’s soundtrack was the best-selling album that year.  According the USA Today, the Nielsen ratings reported that on August 17, 2007, 17.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the premier of High School Musical 2 on the Disney Channel making it the most watched cable telecast in history.  Well guess what all you High School Musical fans?  This year on October 24, Disney will be releasing “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” and it will be the first film in the series to open not on the Disney Channel but on the big screen in movie theaters!  Since 2006 Disney has kept all the star characters of this franchise, Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor top selling costumes for Halloween and it looks like they’re going to do it again this year!

So whether you like a traditional classic princess or superhero costume or a more “hip” costume like Hannah Montana or High School Musical, Disney has it all!

Great Movie and TV Costumes

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

You’re probably sick of me asking this, but do you have your Halloween costume yet?  There’s still time!  Go to our shipping page and you’ll see you can still order your costume and have it shipped to you in time for Halloween. It’s not too late. Here’s the link: Just in Time Shipping Schedule and Delivery Calculator

Grease is one of my all time favorite movies!  Who can forget Rydell High with Danny, Sandy, Rizzo, Kenickie, Frenchy, The T-Birds and The Pink Ladies?  The movie was released in June 1978 and is still wildly popular today.  I don’t think there’s a song in that movie that most people don’t know every word to.  Even my children love it!  With our line of Grease costumes now you go back to the days of poodle skirts and saddle shoes.  Check out all our Grease costumes at Grease Halloween Costumes.  Grease is the word!

The Lord of the Rings is a blockbuster trilogy consisting of:

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The films were critically acclaimed, winning an unbelievable 17 Academy Awards.  My nephews love this trilogy and have seen them over and over again.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played Lord of the Rings Monopoly with them!  The characters in the movie are so well known that when you dress as one for Halloween everyone knows what character you are.  Gandolf, Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas, Queen Arwen and even the lovely Gollum are some of the costumes you can choose from.  See our entire line of The Lord of the Rings costumes at  Lord of the Rings Halloween Costumes.

As far as children and Nickelodeon go, there’s no better match.  Children love Nickelodeon and all the characters that come with it.  So when it comes to picking out their costumes many children want to be the characters that are in the Nickelodeon shows they like.  Sponge Bob (which I happen to know is not just a childs favorite – many adults love Sponge Bob) and his friend Patrick, Blues Clues, Dora the Explorer and her brother Diego are all shows that children love to watch.  For all our Nickelodeon favorite costumes go to  Nickelodeon Halloween Costumes.

Remember there’s still time to shop, order and receive your costume from Halloween Express.  Get shopping now and make this Halloween a night to remember!

Cowboys and Indians

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Growing up I remember my brother’s running around the backyard playing cowboy and Indians.  They would chase each other for hours with my older brother Brian playing the gun slinging cowboy and my younger brother Kyle chasing right behind him wearing his Indian war bonnet and waving around his precious tomahawk (talk about an accident waiting to happen).  Of course I always wanted to play the little Indian girl but there was no way they were going to let a girl play in their “manly” war game, especially their sister!

Today, children still play cowboy and Indians, and I believe our children’s children will play cowboy and Indians - it’s a rich part of our past heritage.  I just love to watch the old Western’s on television with the rugged cowboys in their leather duster and chaps.  The good guys always won!

The blockbuster movie 3:10 to Yuma was just released in September to rave reviews.  It’s about a small-time rancher that agrees to hold a captured outlaw who’s awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma.  It’s bringing the modern day cowboy back to the forefront just in time for Halloween season.  I think you’re going to be seeing a lot of cowboys (adults and children) at costume parties and out trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Then you had academy award winning movies like “The Last of the Mohicans” and “Dances With Wolves” in the early 90’s that had every child wanting to be an American Indian.  These were definitely two of my all time favorite movies ever!

If you want to see some of the coolest and sexiest cowboy and Indian costumes this year for Halloween, go to Cowboy and Indian Halloween Costumes and Indian Costumes.  These costumes aren’t just for guys anymore; the girls are bringing it on with cute and sexy costumes that will drive any cowboy wild!  Don’t want to be a cowgirl or Indian Princess? Check out our Saloon Girl Halloween Costume or our Saloon Girl Dancer Halloween Costume.

Let’s hear it for the Wild, Wild West!
