Punxsutawney Phil Says Spring Is Coming Early!

Ok as much as I’d love to believe this beloved groundhog, I’m thinking Phil may be a little off this year!  It’s hard to believe spring will come at all when you look out your window and all you see is white!  Even though most of the world is covered in snow, I really do hope that Punxsutawney Phil is right!  Since he didn’t see his shadow it’s supposed to mean that spring will come early this year.

Both groundhogs, Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck did not see their shawdows this morning.  However, due to the horrible winter weather in Wisconsin, Sun Prairie’s groundhog Jimmy, didn’t come out at all!  He’s not stupid, I’m sure he’d much rather stay inside his nice little home than come out early in the morning on a day like today!

No matter what the groundhog shadows say, or don’t say, Mother Nature has her own plans and winter is not leaving any time soon!  We’ll be bundling up in frigid temperatures for awhile to come!

Costumes Are Fun On A Winter Day!

This winter has been especially rough with all the snowfall – not just inches in some states, but it’s coming down in feet!  With all that snowfall and freezing temperatures, playing outside isn’t always an option for a lot of kids.  So with that in mind, parents should be prepared to hear the famous child cry of, “I’m bored!”

One simple way to keep kids busy for hours can be summed up in one simple word…costumes! Kids love them!  Some of our children’s favorite shows are on Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel.  There’s nothing better for a child than to be able to dress up as one of their favorite characters.

Besides the superheroes and princesses, children will love the Yo Gabba Gabba costumesand the Sponge Bob costumes!  Encouraging your child to use his or her imagination and letting their creative juices flow is a great way for them to have hours of fun when they’re stuck inside on a wintery day!

100th Day Of School Fun!

School BusChristmas break is over and the school’s are back in full swing.  Another thing that is in full swing is this crazy winter weather!  Wow can you believe all the snow that’s falling all over the country?  Here in the Midwest we’re getting another round of the white stuff and it’s coming down strong.  So even though school is back in session, some children are getting plenty of snow days added to their schedule.  I know my children love snow days, but they don’t like the part about making up the days at the end of the school year.

One thing young kids like about school is all the classroom holiday parties.  February has a few holidays coming up where they’ll get to have party’s in school - Valentine’s Day, President’s Day and Groundhogs Day.  Another fun day in February that a lot of schools celebrate is the “100th day of school” day.  It’s a big deal to some elementary schools and they make it a fun day for the children with lots of games, crafts and fun!

February is the Month of Love!

The most romantic holiday of the year is by far, February 14th Valentine’s Day!   A day for couples everywhere to shower their significant other with flowers, candy, cards and romantic getaways.

Valentine’s Day is also a big day for marriage proposals.  With love in the air, the popular question, ”Will you marry me?” is heard loud and clear by men of all ages across the country.  With so much romance going around it’s not hard to believe the the most famous of Valentine symbols is of course, the infamous Cupid, the Roman God of Love.

Best Friends Forever Childs CostumeWhat makes Valentine’s Day so special is that all ages get into the spirit of the holiday from children to adults.  Children have party’s at school where they make special Valentine boxes and exchange Valentine’s Day cards.  It’s so much fun to watch my children pick out just the right cards for their friends at school.  You have everything from Sponge Bob to Justin Bieber Valentine’s Day cards for kids to choose from.  HalloweenExpress.com even has a kids costume that two children can wear.  It’s a BFF (Best Friends Forever) styrofoam heart that is separated down the middle.

It’s the perfect Valentine’s Day costume for my daughter Olivia and her best friend, Savanna.

Ring In The New Year In Style!

Well we made it through the Christmas holiday and now we’re heading straight into the biggest party holiday of the year, New Years Eve! Everybody is making plans for which parties to go to, which dinners to attend and which friends you want to spend the last day of the year with. If you’re past that “party” all night stage then sitting at home with a nice bottle of wine watching the ball drop on tv is the perfect place for you. However, there’s nothing like a wild and crazy costume party on New Year’s Eve to say goodbye to the old and welcome in the new year with family and friends!

Ring in the new year dressed as your favorite Hollywood star, a character from your favortie movie or perhaps even a superhero. The possibilities are endless! Make a political statement and dress up as a president (past or present). There’s plenty of crazy politicians out there that you could dress up as. Take the humorous route and portray a famous sports figure that made headlines this year…Tiger Woods instantly comes to mind!

Be the life of the party and try out a sexy costume from Halloween Express! Make the guys notice and the girls jealous by making this a New Year’s Eve party to remember! And don’t forget the accessories…never underestimate the power of a mask and cape!
