You Can Be President for a Day!

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend!  We had a lot of rain during the day on Friday so it put a little damper on the pool party, but at least it cleared up enough in the evening for the neighborhood fireworks show to go off as planned.   The kids figured you get wet when you swim anyway so they spent most of the day swimming in the rain and had a blast.  The next holiday in line is Labor Day on the first of September then of course on to my favorite – Halloween!  Actually in approximately 115 days it will be Halloween.  I know that sounds really far off now, but as we all know time flies and before you know it Labor Day will have come and gone and we’ll be heading into October.

With the political race for the US President in full swing you can bet we’ll see a lot of people dressing up as Barack O’Bama and John McCain this Halloween season.  Whether you’re voting for your favorite Republican nominee or favorite Democratic nominee all you need is the full vinyl mask that you’ll find here at Halloween Express, add to that a suit and tie and you’re set!   It’s really a very simple costume that will make a big statement this year.  By October the Presidential race will be hotter than ever!

If it’s Presidential masks you’re looking for, but would rather step back a year or two, or six or ten then don’t let that stop you.  Check out our Bill and Hillary Clinton masks or Richard Nixon and Ronald Regan.  For a more up-to-date look you could always go with the current President George Bush Jr mask.

No matter which Presidential mask you choose just remember to have fun this Halloween season.  Just because you’re President for the night doesn’t mean you have to act like one!

Big Weekend of Fireworks and Superheroes!

I hope everyone has big plans this weekend to get out, enjoy the beautiful summer weather and see some amazing fireworks!  This year Fourth of July is on Friday, but I think most of the party’s will be on Saturday the 5th.  Saturday’s are always easier especially if you’re the one throwing the party.  After a long day of work on Friday the last thing you want to do is come home and throw a party.  However, it’s always easier if someone else is throwing the party and your just going to relax and have fun, then a Friday party is fine!  The best deal with this on the Fourth of July is usually your neighborhood park or community center because there’s always some planned picnic and firework show to enjoy.

Not only is the weekend going to be busy with Fourth of July celebrations, but Wednesday July 2nd is going to be a big day at the theaters.  The movie “Hancock” starring Will Smith is being released that day and by all the talk from movie goers it’s going to be a big summer blockbuster hit!  He plays a hard-living superhero that has fallen out of favor with the public until the day he saves the life of a man and realizes he may have a vulnerable side after all.   The tagline is;  “There are heroes, there are superheroes and then there’s Hancock”.  And you know how much we love those superheroes at Halloween Express, right?

Disney Does It Again With WALL-E!

Today the animated Walt Disney Pixar movie WALL-E is being released on the big screen.  This movie looks adorable!  I can’t wait to see it with my kids.  It’s about a a trash-compacting robot that goes by the name WALL-E and EVE, a sleek research robot and their hilarious journey across the universe.   I’m sure WALL-E’s character will be a big hit with kids making it a sure thing as one of the ”popular” costumes for Halloween this year.  According to Disney, the show is filled with surprises, action, humor and heart, all of which will make this a huge summer blockbuster hit.

Here are some fun facts about the movie:

  • WALL-E is an acronym for Waste Allocation Load Lifter – Earth Class
  • Tagline – An adventure beyond the ordinar-E
  • Written and directed by Andrew Stanton who also did Finding Nemo
  • The movie takes place in the year 2700
  • It has a release date of July 18 in the UK and Sept 18 in Australia

So if you’re looking for something to do with your family this summer, go see WALL-E!

Fourth of July – Show Your Patriotic Spirit

Friday, June 20 was the first “official” day of summer and all the swimming pools and picnics are in full swing!  Speaking of picnics, the July 4th weekend is just 11 days away and that’s definitely one of the biggest weekends of the summer for a party with family and friends.

We always have the Fourth of July party at our house and I love planning and getting everything together for it.  It’s probably one of my favorite holidays because there is always so much to do.  Picnics, parades and fireworks are just a few things to look forward to on July 4th.  If you’re planning on throwing a party you should start planning now so that you’re not pulling your hair out trying to get everything done at the last minute.

If you’re planning on having it outside then put some colorful flower pots around to give your yard a little color.  My kids love to decorate the yard with those small plastic flags and anything they can get their hands on that’s red, white and blue.  Since it is the middle of summer and usually pretty hot by now, make sure you have plenty of shade for your friends and family to enjoy (sitting outside sweating up a storm is not very enjoyable).  If you don’t have an awning or covered deck just put some umbrella tables around the yard.  I always borrow a couple from my family and neighbors!

A great way to show your patriotc spirit is to get one of our great costumes from Halloween Express.  From Uncle Sam and The Statue of Liberty costumes to plastic flags and aprons, we have everything you need to make your Fourth of July celebration a weekend to remember.

Like a lot of neighborhoods, ours always has a big firework display that evening.  It’s a perfect ending to a great Fourth of July party with family and friends!

We Love Disney!

Every little girl dreams of being a princess and where else can you find the most popular princess characters than Disney.  Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, Jasmine and Aurora are characters that every girl can relate to.  I know my sisters and I were all princesses at one time or another for Halloween and I think most women can say the same thing.

Disney sure makes it easy with all the wonderful characters not only in their big screen movies, but on the Disney Channel as well.  I know I’ve seen some wonderful characters trick-or-treating from these movies:

  • The Lion King
  • Toy Story
  • Monsters Inc
  • Power Rangers
  • 101 Dalmations

And the list goes on and on.  I remember last year my niece wanted to be Hannah Montana so badly that she just couldn’t believe that her mom could not find the costume anywhere because it sold out so quickly.  That’s why you may think it’s way too early to even think about a Halloween costume, but I’m telling you it’s not.

I don’t know about you, but my daughters could not get enough of High School Musical last year.  They must have watched the original and High School Musical 2 a dozen times.  Did you know that the original musical was released on January 20, 2006 and was one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies produced.  The film’s soundtrack was the best-selling album that year.  According the USA Today, the Nielsen ratings reported that on August 17, 2007, 17.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the premier of High School Musical 2 on the Disney Channel making it the most watched cable telecast in history.  Well guess what all you High School Musical fans?  This year on October 24, Disney will be releasing “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” and it will be the first film in the series to open not on the Disney Channel but on the big screen in movie theaters!  Since 2006 Disney has kept all the star characters of this franchise, Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor top selling costumes for Halloween and it looks like they’re going to do it again this year!

So whether you like a traditional classic princess or superhero costume or a more “hip” costume like Hannah Montana or High School Musical, Disney has it all!
