Horror Movies

There are a lot of great horror movies out in the theaters now, but a few more have recently been released just in time for a little scare amid the Halloween season:

30 Days of Night – The movie takes place in Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost town in the U.S, where the winter sun sets and does not rise for 30 days and nights. From the darkness comes an evil force that strikes terror on the town, and all hope is pinned on a husband-and-wife cop team.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D – Jack Skellington, (aka the Pumpkin King), is bored with his job and feels that life in Halloweenland lacks meaning. Then he stumbles upon Christmastown and promptly decides to make the Yuletide his own. Check out our “Jack Skellington” costumes at Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween Costumes

Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour – The first in a series of Sarah Landon Mysteries.  Far away from home, Sarah Landon finds herself all alone, staying in the guesthouse of her late friend’s grandmother.  She didn’t realize that the guesthouse was haunted, but that soon becomes the least of the 17 year olds worries.  When she learns of the town’s dark secret she finds herself in the middle of a haunting mystery that involves two brothers, the local psychic and an evil spirit.

If a movie is not what you had in mind, maybe you could take your kids to a pumpkin patch or go on a haunted hayride. The weather has been absolutely beautiful so it’s nice to be outside.  It’s a great time to pick out that perfect pumpkin and start carving!  Don’t forget to clean the seeds, throw a little salt and garlic powder on them and throw them under the broiler for a little late night snack.

If you still haven’t decided on your costume yet, now is a good time to put that worry to rest!.  There’s going to be a lot of costume parties coming up in the next week so you’ll need to be ready.   Decide if you want your costume to be funny, scary, sexy, etc… and then go from there.  Go to our homepage, click on whatever type of costume you’re looking for, find your size and order.  It’s as simple as that!  So what are you waiting for?
Happy Shopping!

The Kids Costumes Are In

Yesterday, UPS delivered my kids costumes and they fit perfectly!  Now, that the anticipation of waiting for the costumes – wondering how they would look, if they would fit, if they wouldn’t fit, did they make the right choice about which costume they wanted, etc… – is officially over.  The “wondering” is over and now the excitement begins!  Twelve more days until they can put those costumes on, apply makeup to their faces and become their new character for the night.

It was a lot of work getting my two oldest to decide between all the great costumes on our website.  I didn’t think they’d ever figure out what they wanted to be!  My backup plan of cutting two eyes out of a white sheet and throwing it over their heads was looking pretty good towards the end.  Ok here’s what costumes we finally decided on

Caden (my 9 year old son) – Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrow Deluxe Child Costume Jack Sparrow Deluxe Child Halloween Costumel   plus it wouldn’t be complete without the Jack Sparrow’s sword  and scabbard. Pirate Sword   This costume is unbelievable!  The pirate hat with attached black beaded braids add the perfect touch.  Caden loves pirates and has since he was little, so this costume was perfect – plus Jack Sparrow is his Idol.

Sydney (my 6 year old daughter) – Monster Bride Child Costume Monster Bride Halloween Costume  and of course she had to have the stitched glovettes  Stitched Halloween Costume Gloves    I wasn’t too keen on this costume at first only because I wasn’t sure anyone would know what she’s trying to be, but Sydney loved it and kept coming back to it when we were looking at costumes for her.  However, I’m so glad we ordered it because it is probably one of the cutest costumes I’ve ever seen!  Sydney looks adorable in it!  (I ended up buying her white tights and drew on the “stitches” with permanent black marker).

And last but not least,

Olivia (my 4 year old daughter) – Lil’ Mermaid Toddler Costume  Mermaid Toddler Halloween Costume The Seaweed Boa wrap looks so cute with her costume we just had to have it. Boa Wrap for Halloween Costume  The Little Mermaid has always been a favorite around our house.  Sydney and Olivia love Ariel and all her underwater adventures.  The costume looks darling on her.  She wanted to wear it to bed last night so I can see that I’m going to have a hard time keeping her out of it until Halloween night.

Well that’s it for our costume charades for this year!  Now the kids can’t wait for Halloween night so that they can put their costumes on and have fun trick-or-treating.

Tom Smith Halloween Crackers

Is everyone ready for Halloween?  Only 13 more days until the “undead” will once again roam the earth for one eerie night.  Of course they’ll have to make their way through the ghosts, goblins, ninjas, princesses and Hannah Montana’s, but I’m sure they’ll be fine.  I can’t wait to see all the trick-or-treaters out begging for candy.  Hopefully there won’t be any tricks played, just good old fashioned treats.  Don’t forget October 30th is Cabbage Night so be sure to bring all your pumpkins inside for the night, park your cars in the garage and leave as many outside lights on as you can.  Better to be safe than sorry!

Planning a Halloween party this year?  Have I got the perfect fun activity for children and adults alike.  They’re called Tom Smith Halloween Crackers and everyone will love them!  It’s a new twist on a traditional Christmas treat.  I know the first time I heard Tom Smith Christmas Crackers I was like “what are those?”  Well, here’s a brief description and history for you to better understand what exactly they are.

The Christmas cracker was invented in 1847 by Tom Smith, a baker of wedding cakes from Clerkenwell, London.  On a trip to Paris in 1840 Smith discovered the “bon-bon”, a sugared almond wrapped in a twist of paper. Back in London, his new sweets became quite popular. When he noticed that young men were buying them for their sweethearts he began to place love mottoes on small slips of paper inside the wrapping. In 1846, standing at his fireplace, the crackle of a log gave him the flash of inspiration for the cracker. After much experimentation, he got it right. He pasted small strips of saltpetre to two strips of thin card. As the cards were pulled away from each other, the friction created a crack and a spark (similar to that used in a cap gun).  A cracker consists of a cardboard tube wrapped in a brightly decorated twist of paper, making it resemble an oversized sweet-wrapper. The cracker is pulled by two people, and, much in the manner of a wishbone, the cracker splits unevenly. The split is accompanied by a small bang.  Inside the cracker is typically a small toy or other trinket and a motto, a joke or piece of trivia on a small strip of paper.

The Halloween crackers contain small Halloween trinkets and toys.  We had the Tom Smith Christmas Crackers last year on Christmas Eve and the kids couldn’t wait to “pull” their crackers.  Even the adults were getting into it!  Believe me you’ll love these crackers because they’ll make one heck of an exciting Halloween treat!  Start a new tradition this year with your family and friends with the Tom Smith Halloween Crackers.

Scary Movie Night

Halloween is exactly two weeks from today!  That means there are only 14 days left before you have to put on your costume for trick-or-treating.  Unless, you’re heading to a costume party the Saturday before Halloween, then you have only 10 more days left before you have to put on that costume of yours.  The Halloween Express stores around the country are packed with people trying to find that one perfect costume.  The excitement is brewing and everyone is having fun getting ready for Halloween!  Buying costumes, decorating houses, getting all the candy “treats” together, going to pumpkin patches and haunted houses, carving pumpkins and the list goes on and on.  Halloween is a time of year for pretending and make believe – a time when we can all feel like children again!

This weekend is a good time to get together with friends and have a “movie night”.  Have everyone bring appetizers with a Halloween theme and pick a scary movie to watch.  Here are some recently released horror movies on DVD:

  • 28 Weeks Later
  • Vacancy
  • The Reaping
  • Planet Terror

Or you could just go with the “tried and true” horror flicks such as:

  • The Exorcist
  • Rosemary’s Baby
  • The Omen
  • The Amityville Horror
  • Halloween

Instead of adult horror films, you can change the theme to accommodate children and make it a family “movie night”.  We do this every year and the kids love it!  Remember, kids grow up so fast so take advantage of the fact that they will still sit with you and watch a movie!  Here are a few great Halloween shows that children love:

  • Hocus Pocus (my all time favorite)
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Halloweentown & Halloweentown II – Kalabar’s Revenge
  • Casper
  • Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie

October 31st is almost here and the “creepy” feeling around my house is getting all of us in the mood for Halloween.  Our “driveway of doom” is ready (see my blog dated August 21st) and the yard is officially a ghostly graveyard.   The kids and I are looking forward to some sugary candy this year – I’m hoping they’ll be good about sharing.
If you haven’t bought your costume yet, take this time to check out our website.  If you’re reading this then you’re already here, so click on the costume category that interest you and go for it!

Toddler Halloween Costumes

Have you seen the new USPS letter carrier costume for toddler’s size 2-4?  Postman Toddler Halloween Costume   It is absolutely adorable!  Now, Halloween Express has a new toddler costume that just came out – a UPS driver costume. UPS Driver Toddler Halloween Costume   These two costumes are so cute and look just like the real thing.  You’re little girl or boy would look great in either of these costumes.  Ok, if you have twins, how cute would that be to have one go as a mailman and the other as a UPS driver?  You have to see these costumes!

My sister lives in Florida and she just bought the infant Snowman costume for her two year old son.  Snow Baby Infant Halloween Costume   I thought it was pretty appropriate since they live in Florida and the only way they’ll see a snowman is with a costume.  She loved it and couldn’t get over how cute it looked on him.  He’s a little buster and built close to the ground so when she put the costume on him the bottom of the snowball came to the tops of his shoes (which made it look even cuter).   When he put on the black top hat she couldn’t stop laughing.  He looked so cute!   I told her since they live in Florida she has to put sandals on him when he goes out trick-or-treating.  That would be the ultimate Florida snowman!  She’s also going to have him wear the costume for their Christmas cards this year which I think is a great idea!  I can’t wait to see them.  Last year for Halloween, he went as the Superhero Flash.  The Flash Newborn Halloween Costume   That was another great costume.  He wanted to wear it all the time even after Halloween.  He wouldn’t take it off!  It reminded me of the little boy in the movie Daddy Day Care.

I could spend hours looking at all our toddler costumes.  That is such a great age for Halloween.  They’re still not real sure what Halloween’s about, but you put that costume on them and they’re out the door!  Plus add candy to the mix and it’s the best holiday ever!

Don’t forget there are only 15 more days until Halloween!  You don’t want your kids trick-or-treating with a sheet over their head dressed as the old “fall-back” ghost costume because you waited too long to order that one perfect costume they really, really wanted.  So what are you waiting for – start ordering!!
